Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, at just 15 years of age, is arguably the most destructive opener in the Twenty20 format. Since making his debut in IPL 2025 with the Rajasthan Royals, the teenage batter has continued his blistering form.
Since the inception of T20 cricket, over the years, there have been multiple swashbuckling batters who have come under the spotlight and graced the format. Soon or later, it is obvious that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will play for the senior cricket team in the future.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s retirement date is revealed!
When the entire world is mesmerized by the flamboyant batting of the emerging talent, one of the former England cricketers made a shocking comment. During a recent discussion, a former England cricketer talked about Vaibhav’s retirement. Jokingly, Phil Tufnell claimed that the Indian batter could retire when he turns 21.
England legends Michael Vaughan, Alastair Cook, Phil Tufnell, and David Lloyd were engaged in a group discussion in a recent episode of the ‘Stick to Cricket’ podcast. One of the topics in the discussion was Rajasthan Royals’ Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
Michael Vaughan compared Sooryavanshi with Gayle and Abhishek Sharma
The former England captain Michael Vaughan compared Chris Gayle’s version of a century with Sooryavanshi’s century in the Indian Premier League. Gayle recorded his historic IPL century in only 30 balls, while the 15-year-old opener endured 35 balls to score his century for the Rajasthan Royals. Vaughan compared the Bihar-born with Abhishek Sharma as well.
At the rate Sooryavanshi has been scoring runs and smashing maximums, he is very close to breaking Abhishek’s record as well. Abhishek Sharma, a Sunrisers Hyderabad batter, recorded 42 sixes in a single season of the league. Sooryavanshi has already got 37 in IPL 2026, only 6 sixes away from breaking the record.
“Chris Gayle has the fastest IPL century in 30 balls, and this kid has already hit a century in 35. The record for most sixes in a season by an Indian is held by Abhishek Sharma (42 sixes), and this guy has already reached 37,” Michael Vaughan pointed out.
Alastair Cook concurs with the same opinion that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is currently the best six-hitter in the world. Cook could barely imagine what the price tag would be for the batter if he ever went to auction in the future.
“Imagine where his price will go if he expresses his desire to go to auction again next year?” Alastair Cook raised the question.
“He might burn out by the time he’s 21”
From the point of discussion, Phil Tufnell, in a funny way, mentioned that by the age of 21, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi could be at the helm of the ladder and could consider retirement at a young age.
“He might burn out by the time he’s 21. By then, he’ll have so much money he might just retire,” the former cricketer stated.
