Can DC still qualify after KKR defeat?

Delhi Capitals are not officially eliminated from the race for the playoffs in IPL 2026 despite their humiliating defeat against the Kolkata Knight Riders. However, their chances of ending up in the top four remain negligible.

The entire IPL points table features ten teams, and none of them has been ruled out of the competition. None of the teams has been officially eliminated, but it can be assumed that the likes of the Mumbai Indians, Lucknow Super Giants, and now the Delhi Capitals as well are not likely to see it through to the playoffs.

Delhi Capitals have been part of the IPL since the inaugural season, as earlier they were known as the Delhi Daredevils. Having played a handful of playoffs, the Capitals are one of the remaining teams to have never won the IPL title.

Delhi Capitals succumb to fierce Finn Allen storm in consecutive home match defeats

The Delhi Capitals’ batting order looked very promising before the start of the season. With KL Rahul scoring runs at the back of some promising form, he is among the top three run scorers this season. However, since that mammoth 264 runs against the Punjab Kings and that chase of 225+ runs against the Rajasthan Royals, they have failed to have an impact with the bat.

In their last home match against the Kolkata Knight Riders, the Capitals batters lost wickets early and crumbled further during the middle overs. After a good start from Pathum Nissanka and some efforts from Ashutosh Sharma towards the death, Delhi could manage just 142 runs.

KKR, on the other hand, got off to a slow start; however, a majestic hundred from Finn Allen helped the three-time champions register their fourth consecutive victory of the season. Allen finally spent some time on the crease and paid off his standards in just one game.

What are the Delhi Capitals’ chances of qualification after seven defeats in the season?

After their recent defeat to the Kolkata Knight Riders, the Capitals have now lost seven out of their eleven matches in the season. Despite having played some good cricket and having an experienced bunch of cricketers, the Capitals have brought down their chances of qualification very close to negligible.

Delhi Capitals now have secured just eight points from 11 matches, and can finish the league stage with a maximum of 14 points even if they win all of their remaining matches this season.

However, 14 points never guarantee a place in the top four, as table toppers Sunrisers have already secured 14 points, and the four teams following them have secured 12 or more points so far in this season, with several matches yet to be played.

Delhi’s remaining matches in IPL 2026

Currently placed eighth in the points table after 11 matches, the Delhi Capitals have three matches left in this season. In those remaining matches, their next match is against the Punjab Kings at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala.

PBKS had chased that massive 265-run target against the Capitals and have not won any of their three matches since then. They will then play their final home match of the season against the Rajasthan Royals before they head over to the Eden Gardens for their final clash against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
