Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjiv Goenka received praise on social media after a heartwarming interaction with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter Virat Kohli. Goenka patiently waited alongside his young grandson to get an autograph from the RCB batter, earning fans’ respect for the gesture.
Lucknow Super Giants defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 9 runs through the DLS method in a rain-shortened 19-over match at Ekana Cricket Stadium on Thursday, May 7. The victory ended Lucknow’s difficult six-match losing streak and also gave the franchise its first home win in five matches this IPL season.
Sanjiv Goenka’s Humble Gesture Toward Virat Kohli Wins Hearts
Following the match, Sanjiv Goenka patiently waited with his grandson while Virat Kohli spoke with Kane Williamson, Lucknow Super Giants’ strategic advisor. Goenka even stopped an LSG staff member from interrupting the conversation between the two cricketers.
Goenka’s grandson is a huge admirer of Kohli, and the LSG owner wanted the youngster to meet the Royal Challengers Bengaluru star after the match. However, the 65-year-old refused to use his authority and waited for Kohli and Williamson to finish their discussion.
After completing his conversation with Williamson, Kohli greeted Goenka and his grandson near the boundary ropes. The former RCB captain interacted with the child and signed an autograph for him. Fans on social media praised both Kohli’s gesture and Goenka’s behavior during the interaction.

Rishabh Pant expressed relief after Lucknow Super Giants secured an important victory in the tournament. The captain admitted the team had endured a difficult campaign and praised the squad for finally delivering a strong all-round performance with both bat and ball.
“It was a good game for us for sure. For the whole team it means a lot. We have been trying lot of things. Coming to the same page means a lot for us. It’s been a tough season but some times you have to go through the grind. Definitely we were trying to put together a perfect game where batting and bowling comes together,” Pant said.
It Was a Tough Call – Rishabh Pant
Rishabh Pant also explained his decision to hand Digvesh Rathi the final over while defending 20 runs. The Lucknow Super Giants captain praised Mitchell Marsh for his brilliant innings and credited the bowling attack for performing under pressure throughout the match.
“It was a tough call. We were under pressure. Rathi was the right matchup for Romario Shepherd. Unbelievable innings. We know that as a team we’ve been grinding hard. Our strength this season has been bowling, the way all the bowlers have put their heart out. There has been some good things as a bowling unit, and looking forward to that,” Pant added.
Mitchell Marsh starred in the first innings with a sensational 111 off 56 balls as Lucknow Super Giants posted 209/3. Pant also remained unbeaten on 32. During the chase, Rajat Patidar scored a fighting 61, but Royal Challengers Bengaluru eventually fell short in the final over.
Prince Yadav impressed during the powerplay with figures of 3/33. The pacer dismissed Virat Kohli for a two-ball duck and also removed Jacob Bethell cheaply to put Bengaluru under early pressure.
