However, in recent times, the novelty factor has diminished, and the recent data has shown that the viewership has dropped by 26%, one of the major reasons also being that fans who have tuned in to watch the match have not stayed for the full duration of the match.

The Indian government went on to ban the real money games, considering them gambling. However, the landscape of IPL advertising and engagement was fundamentally altered after the Indian government banned apps and websites promoting real money betting.
