Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have turned their IPL 2026 campaign into a thrilling comeback story after being written off early in the tournament because of the shaky start. KKR left everyone disappointed by losing five matches in a row, with one game being whitewashed in Kolkata.
At that stage, the three-time champions’ campaign was almost considered over, with the team showing no sign of improvement. But Ajinkya Rahane’s team has flipped the script in a surprising way and returned to winning ways in the ongoing IPL 2026.
KKR roar back into IPL 2026 Playoff race after poor start
The Kolkata Knight Riders have made a stunning comeback by winning four matches in a row and have climbed up to seventh place on the points table with 9 points from 10 matches so far. The dressing room now looks full of confidence after reviving their sinking campaign, as they are still very much in the race for the playoffs.
KKR’s dominant eight-wicket victory against Delhi Capitals sent another strong message to the rest of the teams vying for the playoff spots. Taking on DC at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, the Kolkata bowlers did a disciplined job by restricting Delhi to 142 runs, and then the batters finished the chase in only 14.2 overs with 8 wickets in hand.
KKR Playoff Qualification Scenario
This victory has added more excitement to their journey and made the IPL 2026 playoff picture very interesting for Kolkata Knight Riders. However, the road to the top four is challenging and KKR cannot afford even small mistakes from here. In the 10-team IPL, teams usually need around 16 or more points to safely reach the playoffs without depending too much on net run rate.
For Kolkata Knight Riders, the equation is now very clear. If the Riders manage to win all their remaining four league matches, they will finish the season with 17 points. That number is usually strong enough to guarantee a top-four finish and secure a direct playoff entry.

However, even a single defeat could create a big headache for the franchise. In that case, KKR may have to depend on a net run rate that is negative for them at this moment and other match results, something every team is trying to avoid in this tight tournament.
Eden Gardens becomes Kolkata’s biggest hope in IPL 2026
The momentum, confidence, and spirit are clearly high inside the Kolkata camp, but consistency will decide their playoff fate. Kolkata Knight Riders still have four important matches left in the ongoing IPL 2026, but the good news is that three of those matches will be played at their home ground, Eden Gardens.
And they will make sure to take full advantage of home conditions to continue their winning momentum and not let slip any chance. KKR’s next match will be against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on May 13 in Raipur. After that, the three-time IPL champions will return to Kolkata for their final three league matches of the season.
They will face Gujarat Titans on May 16, followed by the Mumbai Indians on May 20. The Kolkata franchise will then finish their IPL 2026 league campaign against the Delhi Capitals on May 24. All three matches at Eden Gardens will begin at 7:30 PM IST.
