Kolkata Knight Riders have provided a massive verdict on the availability of their star cricketer Varun Chakravarthy, whose return to form has been a massive positive in their four-match winning streak over the last few games.
Kolkata Knight Riders immensely depend on their two star spinners, Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy, as they have been the best at controlling the game in those quiet middle overs. Chakravarthy’s impact has been tremendous, as he has been the major wicket-taker alongside Narine, who has been very economical.
The Knight Riders are currently eighth on the points table, but they truly have a fair enough chance to make it to the playoffs by winning every match that they are scheduled to play in this season. Though they have matches left against several competitive opponents.
KKR suffers massive blow with Varun Chakravarthy’s injury ahead of crucial clash against RCB
The Raipur wicket didn’t seem to be the very best at offering consistent bounce or something like that; rather, it seemed very sluggish, and the KKR spinners could once again decide the fate of the contest. However, dark clouds loom over the availability of star spinner Varun Chakravarthy.
During their last clash against the Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, the KKR spinner sustained a leg injury as he also struggled to complete his quota of four overs. However, he was taken off the field after having completed his overs and was the first match after a promising return where he went wicketless.
With the match to be played on the 13th of May, he was last spotted wearing knee braces and using crutches, which clearly indicated that he might not be fit enough to feature in the upcoming game against RCB.
KKR coach updates on Varun Chakravarthy’s availability
Shane Watson, the KKR assistant coach, updated on the recent status of the injury of the star spinner and also confirmed that Chakravarthy’s availability cannot be confirmed and he is currently being monitored.
“Varun Chakravarthy is still being monitored at the moment,” Watson said ahead of the clash against RCB in Raipur. “Obviously he’s been sore. In the last two games he was in a lot of pain. Even though he still bowled incredibly well, to see where he started off in the season to where he’s ended up getting to has been incredible to see.”
“We’re just monitoring him at the moment. We’ve got our fingers crossed that he’ll be available for tomorrow, but we’re still not exactly sure,” he said.
Judging by what Watson revealed in that press conference, it seemed clear that Chakravarthy is not very likely to start for KKR. The spinner has played 11 matches against RCB and scalped 15 wickets against this opposition with an economy of 7.18.
