Cameron Green accused of selfish batting at KKR to protect massive IPL contract

Former India captain Kris Srikkanth has accused Kolkata Knight Riders’ star Australian all-rounder Cameron Green of being selfish during his team’s loss to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Raipur on Thursday.

Green was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders at the IPL auction for a whopping Rs. 25.20 crores. That price tag made Green the most expensive overseas player in IPL history. After not winning any of their first six matches, KKR had a slight resurgence by winning four matches in a row. That was until they met RCB in Raipur.

KKR’s four-match win streak comes to an end

Finn Allen’s explosiveness was cut short to a cameo by Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Ajinkya Rahane failed to make a mark on the game, but Cameron Green was prominent at the crease. Green made just 32 runs in 24 balls, and that seemed to stall KKR in the middle phase. Angkrish Raghuvanshi made 71 while Rinku Singh made an unbeaten 49 to push KKR to 193.

RCB welcomed the challenge. Jacob Bethell once again couldn’t make an impact, but Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal put up a stand of 92 after surviving dropped catches. Kohli then brought up his ninth IPL century to ease RCB through the chase and take RCB to the top of the points table.

He is only batting for himself – Kris Srikkanth on Cameron Green

After the match, Srikkanth took to his YouTube channel and criticised Camreon Green for his poor batting. Shrikkanth said that Green only bats for himself now, rather than trying to win the match for the team.

“[Angkrish] Raghuvanshi played very well, but their problem is guys like [Ajinkya] Rahane. Cameron Green ate away too many balls. He has become someone who just bats for himself. He was 14 off his first 15 balls. When Raghuvanshi has given you such a great start, this is not how you support. Green only pulled them down,” he said.

“Otherwise, KKR would have reached 210. They lost the match between the fifth and 10th overs. Green didn’t play for the team. He played selfishly. Raghuvanshi and Rinku Singh tried hard again in the end after Green’s dismissal. But even there, the 18th over went for seven runs. That’s where Rinku also should have exploded,” he continued.

Cameron Green’s form in IPL 2026

Despite being paid over three million dollars, Cameron Green’s returns in IPL 2026 have been modest at best. In 11 matches, Green has scored just 264 runs at an average of 33 and a strike rate of 145. He has also scored one half-century with a highest score of 79.

In the starting days of the tournament, there was a lot of drama surrounding Green’s fitness and ability to bowl. But that seems to be water under the bridge as Green has now bowled 14 overs in 11 matches. Currently, he has 4 wickets at an average of 41.25 and an economy rate of almost 11.28 runs per over.
