Lately, Mohammed Siraj stands out among pace bowlers in this year’s IPL campaign. Twelve games in, he’s taken 13 wickets, keeping things tight with a run rate just above eight. Former World Cup champion Kris Srikkanth points to Gujarat Titans as the turning point in his journey. Back in 2017, Sunrisers Hyderabad gave him his first shot at the big stage. After that, Bangalore called him home for seven full seasons – then came the move westward. A fresh start shaped what followed. His rhythm now feels different, sharper somehow. The change didn’t happen overnight. Each phase added something new under the surface.
Out of nowhere, Srikkanth highlighted how GT backed talents such as Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar with real chances. His comments came through in a clip posted on his own YouTube page, later picked up by Sportskeeda.
“(Mohammed) Siraj was terrible with RCB. But here, he has become a deadly bowler. Similarly, no other team would have even taken Sai Sudarshan. Yet, GT have transformed him to a different level. He has made Washington Sundar score at No.4 and turned him into a batting allrounder,” the former India opener said in the video.
Out of nowhere, Gujarat Titans found strength without marquee names. Leading since 2024, Shubman Gill stepped into the captain’s role. Earlier, it was Hardik Pandya who wore the armband. Yet they stayed competitive against strong opponents.
“They have a brilliant bowling lineup. And they still have Washington Sundar, who they don’t use only. Jason Holder doesn’t even give 25 to 30 runs every match. He bowls brilliantly in the middle overs and takes wickets for them,” Srikkanth added.
Right from 2022, Gujarat Titans have stood out as a steady force in IPL seasons. Their debut year ended with a championship win. After that, across three tournaments, they reached post-season play two times. Another strong finish seems likely, given how things are going now. Twelve games down, sixteen points earned so far. One single win is all it takes for them to secure playoff qualification again.
