Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Earns India A Call-Up

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi just added another milestone to his resume. The 15-year-old — already the fastest Indian to hit a century in the IPL — has made it into the India A squad, led by Tilak Varma, for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka in June. Right now, he’s busy playing for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026. And there’s plenty of buzz that the selectors have their eye on him for more: maybe the Ireland tour in June, maybe Zimbabwe after that, or one of the West Indies T20Is at home, even the Asian Games in Japan this September. For young players, India A isn’t just an honor — it’s usually the last stop before breaking into the senior team.

This isn’t Vaibhav’s first shot with India A. He was part of the squad during the 2025 Asia Cup Rising Stars as well.

The BCCI put out a statement about the current squad: “The Men’s Selection Committee has picked the India A squad for the one-day tri-series in Sri Lanka this June. The series features Sri Lanka A, India A, and Afghanistan A. After the limited-overs matches, India A will also play two multi-day games against Sri Lanka A, but the red-ball squad will be announced later.” They confirmed the white-ball games are set for Dambulla, while Galle will host the longer matches.

And here’s the full India A squad for the tri-series: Tilak Varma (captain), Priyansh Arya, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Riyan Parag (vice captain), Ayush Badoni, Nishant Sindhu, Harsh Dubey, Suryansh Shedge, Prabhsimran Singh (wicket-keeper), Kumar Kushagra (wicket-keeper), Vipraj Nigam, Yash Thakur, Yudhvir Singh, Anshul Kamboj, and Arshad Khan.

People have asked if Ireland or Zimbabwe would actually be the right step for Vaibhav — almost like giving him another A tour. India legend Ravichandran Ashwin already weighed in during an interview with Revsportz. “After the IPL, I think the best thing for him would be some Emerging tour, first-class cricket or an India A tour. If he can do that for a year, it’ll really help him grow,” Ashwin said.

He went on: “This is Vaibhav’s second real season in the IPL. Last year, he was good, and this season’s started well too. I really like the kid and hope he keeps doing well. But let’s be honest — the competition’s crazy. Even Yashasvi Jaiswal missed out on the 2024 World Cup, and he needs to play T20s. Priyansh Arya is right there as well. Both Priyansh and Vaibhav already played that Emerging tour in Doha.”
