Rohit Sharma mimics Abhishek Nayar during training nets

In a video posted by the Mumbai Indians on their social media handles, Rohit was seen trying to mimic Nayar’s bowling action while Nayar was watching from the adjacent net.

The two have been teammates for Mumbai in domestic cricket in the past and have been great friends since then. Although Nayar was primarily a batsman, he occasionally bowled medium pace.

Nayar also played for four different teams in the IPL and started his career at the Mumbai Indians in 2008. In 2009, he was one of the batters dismissed when Rohit Sharma took his famous hat-trick in the IPL.

Rohit Sharma in IPL 2026

So far, Rohit Sharma has blown a little hot and cold in this year’s IPL. Because of some injury troubles, he has played just 7 out of his team’s 12 matches.

A toe injury against RCB kept him out for a while before hamstring troubles meant that even when he was back, he would only play as the Impact Player and not remain on the field for the full 20 overs.

Rohit’s 268 runs have come at an average of 44.67 and a strike rate of 164. He has also made two fifties, with both of them coming in successful chases of targets over 220.

Rohit Sharma’s team India’s future is in danger

The Indian National selectors are set to meet in Guwahati on Tuesday to pick the team for the one-off Test and three-match ODI series against Afghanistan next month.

According to reports, the Indian selectors are concerned about Rohit’s ability to field for a full 50 overs, especially if he is unable to field for 20 overs regularly in the IPL.

A final call is expected based on his fitness.

Upcoming schedule and playoffs qualification chances for MI and KKR

The Mumbai Indians and the Kolkata Knight Riders will face each other on Wednesday at the Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata.

That match will be the penultimate league stage match for both teams.

With just 4 wins in 12 matches, MI have already been eliminated from playoffs contention in IPL 2026 and are currently in ninth place on the points table.

KKR are one spot above MI at eighth place with 5 wins and 1 no result from their 12 matches. KKR need to win both of their remaining matches and hope for other results to go their way to make the top four.
