Virat, the right-handed legend from India, retired from the longest format of international cricket a year after Kohli hung up his boots on the shortest format of the game, following India’s tremendous success in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Kohli is currently part of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru side and has once again amassed 500+ runs this season, which marked his ninth successful run in the history of the IPL. He has led his team to the top of the IPL points table.

Ever since he hung up his boots on his international Test career, he has continued to feature for them in the longest format of white-ball cricket. However, talks have grown louder, suggesting a special U-turn for the veteran cricketer in the longest format of the game.
His fans were, anyway, puzzled following Virat’s sudden call for retirement in the longest format of the game. Many have also asked his childhood coach, Rajkumar Sharma, to plead with him to return to the Indian Test side.
“Many hardcore Virat Kohli fans have told me, ‘Sir, please ask him to return to Test cricket because he listens to you‘,” said Rajkumar in the Express Cafe podcast.

During a recent talk with Express Cafe, RCB veteran Virat Kohli revealed he would make a comeback to the Indian red-ball side. Rajkumar revealed that he has spoken about the same with the Indian star, but he will have the final say on any decision of a probable turnaround.
When asked if he actually tried to convince Kohli to return to Test cricket, he replied, “Baat toh hui hai, dekhte hai kya hota hai (We have talked about it; let’s see what happens.)“

Virat made his debut in Test cricket after having managed to win hearts with his performance in ODI and T20 cricket. The legendary right-hander amassed 9230 runs across 123 games and transformed them into a global powerhouse in the longest format of the game.
Kohli’s leadership elevated India to new heights in the red-ball format games. He captained India in 68 Test matches and won 40 on several major occasions, establishing them at the top of the ICC Test Team Rankings between 2016 and 2021.
He led India to their first-ever win on Australian soil, ending their long 71-year wait. He also captained India to the final of the inaugural ICC World Test Championship. With a win percentage of 58.82%, he was crowned the greatest ever Indian Test skipper.
