The penultimate group game of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 was between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. This was the reverse fixture as RR do a double and qualify for the playoffs of the IPL and will face Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Royals won the match by 30 runs.
Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to field first. As Mumbai made one change, Shardul Thakur, who has replaced Jasprit Bumrah, as the speedster was rested for the final game as Mumbai were already eliminated from the IPL playoff race. For the Royals, they made three changes with Nandre Burger, skipper Riyan Parag, and Ravindra Jadeja coming in.
IPL 2026: MI vs RR Match Result:
After being asked to bat first, Yashasvi Jaiswal was off to a breezy start as the Southpaw scored 27 off 17 deliveries. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who was the star the last time these two teams met, could not cause much trouble to the Mumbai bowlers as he was back with the score of four runs. Riyan Parag also went back early.
Dhruv Jurel and Dasun Shanaka then stitched a partnership of 45(27), and in a mix-up, the latter had to sacrifice his wicket on 29 runs. Jurel also fell, scoring 38 runs, and the wickets kept on falling in the middle overs. As the Royals could only get to a score of 205/8 in their 20 overs, with some runs, 32 runs from Jofra Archer.
Coming out to chase Rohit Sharma was back in the first over with Jofra Archer picking the wicket, and in his second over, he struck again, picking the wicket of Naman Dhir. Ryan Rickelton followed back, scoring 12 runs. Tilak Varma also departed early, troubling the RR pacers.
Then Suryakumar Yadav and Will Jacks stitched a partnership between them of 63 runs off 38 deliveries. As the England batter departed for 33 off 18 balls. SKY brought his fifty in 32 balls. Hardik played a fiery knock of 34 off 15 balls and kept MI in the hunt. SKY was back in the dugout after playing a knock of 60 runs, and it ended MI???s campaign and also KKR and PBKS.
