Australian legendary fast bowler and Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Pat Cummins’ latest verdict on Nitish Kumar Reddy has shown some sheer amount of reliance on the star Indian all-rounder.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad, despite some stellar seasons, are in the ongoing season of the IPL’s eliminator, as they could manage a third-place finish in the points table. They defeated the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the final league match of the season.
The Sunrisers finished third on the points table with nine wins from 14 matches into the season. However, their net run rate was much less as compared to the Royal Challengers and the Gujarat Titans despite having a promising season with the bat.
“He’s picked up probably five kilometres,” Cummins backs Nitish Kumar Reddy after massive workload in IPL 2026
Pat Cummins, the legendary Australian pacer, was questioned on the role of Nitish Kumar Reddy, the young Indian all-rounder. He has not only batted excellently, but he has added some quick runs towards the back end. Alongside that, his presence with the new ball has been overwhelming.
“I think he’s on to another level this year. He’s picked up probably five kilometers; he’s looking really fit and strong. Previously, he’s had a couple of injuries as well that have hampered the way he could bowl,” said SRH skipper Pat Cummins.
“Also, he offers something a little bit different to anyone else in the bowling lineup. He can really swing the ball, so that’s why he’s got the chance with the new ball a few times. So that’s another point of difference—he’s different from Sakib, Eshan, or myself or Hinge. So yeah, it creates a more complete attack,” he added on what makes Nitish crucial for that SRH attack.
Pat Cummins revealed whether SRH young guns seek his advice on pace bowling
Sunrisers Hyderabad included several new young guns in their side in this season of the IPL and have handed them opportunities throughout their campaign. Undoubtedly they have also put forward a stellar performance.
Pat Cummins was questioned over his role behind Sakib Hussain and Praful Hinge’s considerable success in this season of the IPL. He also admitted to having solved some of the questions that the two youngsters had.
“We talk as a bowling group before every game, to map out maybe a couple of the opposition but also what our strengths are. Yeah, I’ve had plenty of conversations with them. They are both great guys; they want to learn; they want to try new things. They had a few questions; I’m not sure I’ve given them good answers, but yeah, we like bouncing ideas off each other.
Sunrisers Hyderabad have dominated their fixtures to make it to the Playoffs
The Sunrisers Hyderabad started their winning streak after they had managed just a single win after the start of their initial four matches of the season. Ishan Kishan helped SRH to bounce back until Pat Cummins’ return, who missed the initial part of the season due to a recurring back injury.
Sunrisers under Pat Cummins’ leadership made it to the IPL 2024 finals but could not manage to win the title. After a poor season in 2025, they bounced back after registering eight wins in their last 10 matches of the season.
Under Cummins’ leadership, they won the last six of their seven matches, including matches against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. They will clash against RR in the eliminator, which is scheduled to be played in the New PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh.
