‘Abhishek Sharma is a rascal’

Date:

Abhishek Sharma did not have the best of the T20 World Cup 2026. However, the flamboyant left-handed opener rose on the biggest of occasions for the India National Cricket Team. He played a brilliant knock of 52 off 21 balls in the final of the tournament against New Zealand and helped the home side to have a blistering start in the powerplay.

Abhishek Sharma only scored 141 runs in 8 innings, with an average of 17.63 and scoring two fifties. The Southpaw has had a World Cup to forget with the bat, though he was part of the winning team at last. Abhishek also picked up the final wicket of New Zealand’s innings in the final to earn India their third T20 World Cup title.

Abhishek Sharma has a fan following in Australia

Despite Abhishek having a poor World Cup run, he kept his No.1 T20I batter spot. He will next be in action for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Ahead of the IPL, former Australia wicket-keeper batter Brad Haddin has been awestruck by Abhishek Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah’s performances during the T20 World Cup final last Sunday.

Brad Haddin, while speaking on the Willow Talk Cricket Podcast, said, “I think the one thing with this Indian team is that tournament play is about understanding the right time to peak, and that is exactly what India did come the final. You look at the way Bumrah played, you want your superstars to own those moments.”

I’m a huge fan of Abhishek- Brad Haddin

“I’m a huge fan of Abhishek, and there was a lot of talk about his position throughout the tournament. Got a few ducks in the pool games, and all of a sudden, you think he is under pressure, but they are the guys you want in the big moments. because they are rascals and they walk into the fire.”

“That is what Abhishek Sharma does, he puts pressure on the opposition, and the way that he went out in that final set up the game.”

Jasprit Bumrah should be cotton wrapped by India

Jasprit Bumrah was named the Player of the Match for his phenomenal spell of 4/15 in the final. It was the best spell in a T20 World Cup final by a pacer. Bumrah finished the tournament as the joint-highest wicket-taker alongside his own teammate Varun Chakravarthy with 14 wickets.

Jasprit Bumrah not only delivered in the final but also delivered in crucial matches for the Men in Blue in the semi-final against England, where nearly 500 runs were scored. Bumrah finished off the spell with 33/1 with just over an economy of 8. This showcases his talent to deliver under pressure for the side.

Abhishek Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah will next be seen against each other during the IPL when the Mumbai Indians (MI) play the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). This will be an exciting contest to watch as both the cricketers would want to give their best for the franchise, especially Abhishek, who did not have the best of the 2025 IPL season.
