BCB Announces New Selection Panel, Habibul Bashar to Lead

Date:

Fresh off the press, the Bangladesh Cricket Board names ex-captain Kazi Habibul Bashar to lead its latest selection squad. At fifty-three, he steps in with years of calling shots – picked players before, not just for men but also women at international level. His past stints shaped key team choices across formats and genders alike. Now back in charge, his voice will help decide who wears the red and green next. Decisions made under him earlier influenced major shifts in player lineups. From drafting newcomers to backing seasoned ones, his touch was often visible. This return follows recent changes within BCB’s core setup. One door closes, another swings open, and here he walks again. History doesn’t repeat, yet sometimes it rhymes closely enough

First up, Bashar made history as Bangladesh’s top run-scorer in Test matches, breaking past 3000 runs before anyone else from his nation. Fifty times he stepped onto the field in red-ball cricket for Bangladesh. On the limited-overs front, appearances added up to 111 games in white clothing. His bat did the talking, match after match, year on year

Hossain Naeem Nadif Join Panel Under Bashar

Bashar’s selection team includes ex-fast bowler Hasibul Hossain, along with Naeem Islam and Nadif Chowdhury. With time spent on the Gazi Ashraf Hossain-led committee starting September 2025, Hossain already knows how selections work.

Naeem spent twenty years playing cricket, scoring over 20,000 runs in total. His name sits at the top of Bangladesh’s list for first-class centuries – thirty-four, to be exact.

With two decades of play under his belt, including stints in T20 internationals for Bangladesh, Nadif arrives seasoned. Following retirement, he stayed close to the game – shaping young talent through roles like Age Group Selector at BCB. Their new committee stays active right up until the national team lineup for the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup gets confirmed. That tournament heads to Africa, scheduled across October and November of 2027.

Bashir’s career in a nutshell

Running between wickets sharp, Bashir built his name across Bangladeshi cricket fields. Across fifty Test matches, he piled up 3026 runs – three times crossing triple figures, twenty-four times nearing it. Now aged fifty-three, his one-day record stands at 2168 runs from 111 appearances. Fourteen knocks flirted with a century, though none broke through; his peak there, seventy-eight.

Fifty-five seventy-one runs come from ninety-one First-class games, that’s more than five thousand. Moving on, three thousand four hundred eighteen sit across one hundred fifty-six List A appearances.
