Ritesh Sidhwani spoke to the media at Mumbai airport after returning from the awards ceremony. As reported by NDTV, he said, “I think that’s a big one for the entire industry and for the fraternity.”

He described ‘Boong’ as “a small gem of a beautiful, deeply rooted story.” He said it was heartening to see a regional children’s film earn global recognition. “It’s important to see that a film like this has found a place like BAFTA to be recognized and heard. That is very commendable and very humbling,” he said.

‘Boong’ story and global appeal

Directed by Lakshmipriya Devi, ‘Boong’ is set in Manipur and unfolds against a socio-political backdrop. The story follows a young boy who sets out to find his missing father and bring him home. With his friend Raju, he travels to the border town of Moreh and crosses into Myanmar. The journey blends childhood innocence with complex realities.Sidhwani stressed that children’s films hold unique global appeal. “Children’s films are the ones that cross borders. They are simple, universal, and connect across cultures,” he said. He added that recognition from BAFTA proves that simple and rooted stories can resonate worldwide.The film is produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under Excel Entertainment. Its BAFTA win has been widely viewed as a breakthrough for regional storytelling from India. Sidhwani also confirmed that ‘Boong’ will soon release in theaters across India.
