Poor form continues for Cameron Green for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL 2026. At the home ground, Eden Gardens, the Australian batting all-rounder was dismissed after scoring only 4 runs, facing 2 balls. Right after hitting a boundary, he lost his wicket.
Punjab Kings bowler, Xavier Bartlett, Green’s Aussie counterpart, secured the second wicket for his team. Kolkata Knight Riders quickly found themselves in trouble, as they had lost a couple of wickets already inside the power play. Instead of scoring runs, KKR has been losing wickets at the Eden Gardens.
Cameron Green’s wicket instantly put KKR under pressure
Meanwhile, it was Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Ajinkya Rahane, who won the toss and decided to bat first. KKR, the three-time IPL champions, is yet to open its points tally in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026) season.

Since making his debut for KKR in the ongoing season, the Australian star cricketer has been struggling with his batting work. Before dismissing for 4 runs in today’s match, the 26-year-old managed to get only 18 and 2 runs against the Mumbai Indians and the Sunrisers Hyderabad, respectively.
In the IPL 2026 mini auction, the Purple brigade brought Cameron Green for a whopping amount of INR 25.20 crore. Ahead of the auction, it was speculated early that the franchise could go for Green after the retirement of Andre Russell. With the replacement of Russell, Green instantly attracted a lot of expectations before the beginning of the season.
Controversy around Cameron Green as CA restricted him from bowling
Instead of making headlines for phenomenal performances, Green’s name popped up in the headlines for a controversy. In KKR’s opening match of the season, which was against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, the seam bowling all-rounder did not deliver a single bowl.
After the conclusion of the match, Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane was asked to describe why Cameron Green did not bowl. Instead of making any strong comment, Rahane said that Cricket Australia (CA) could provide the right answer to it. Hours after Rahane’s comment, CA issued a statement, mentioning that the franchise is well aware of the player’s limitations.
It is believed that because of ongoing workload management, due to a lower-back injury, Cricket Australia is restricting his bowling to ensure his rehabilitation following surgery.
Early setbacks for the Kolkata Knight Riders
Until Green starts to perform as a bowler, the team will have to use him only as a regular batter. In today’s match, he went to bat at number 3. Green started well, smashing a 4 against the PBKS pacer. But did not take too long to lose the wicket as well.
By the time KKR lost the wicket of Green, the team was on 16 runs after 2 overs. Opener Finn Allen also departed quickly in the match.
