Shares of Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL) were trading in the green and 2% higher on 19 February. This came after the company announced a deal worth $360 million (about Rs 3,267 crore) with France-based CMA CGM to build six 1,700 TEU LNG-fuelled feeder container boats.
The recent win brings the company’s overall order book to roughly Rs 23,000 crore. Each LNG-powered containership will have a capacity of 1700 TEU (20-foot container equivalent) and will cost approximately $60 million.
The development follows Cochin Shipyard’s previous communication dated 14 October 2025. In that update, the company informed of the signing of a Letter of Intent (LOI) with a prominent European client for the design and construction of six feeder container vessels. Each vessel has a capacity of approximately 1,700 TEU and is powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG).
As previously indicated, the order is classified as a Mega order under CSL’s order classification rules. According to the contract, the first vessel will be delivered in 36 months, followed by the final in 64 months. Mega projects are those worth over Rs 2,000 crore, according to the company’s order classification.
Rodolphe Saadé, Chairman and CEO of the CMA CGM Group, said, “I am pleased to be in India to deepen the strategic partnership, which has linked CMA CGM and India for nearly four decades. Today, we are strengthening our shipbuilding cooperation with Cochin Shipyard through the signing of six LNG-powered container vessels.” When asked about plans related to developing containers in India, Saadé replied affirmatively.
CMA CGM, based in Marseille, France, is a global operator in sea, land, air, and logistics solutions with operations in 177 countries. The state-owned Cochin Shipyard is a significant shipbuilding and repair yard in India.
At 3:30 PM, shares of Cochin Shipyard ended 0.99% lower at Rs 1,514 on NSE.
