Deleted from Bengal rolls & added to Bihar list: TMC worker

KOLKATA: A Trinamool worker has alleged that his name has been deleted from the final electoral roll of West Bengal and added to the Bihar voter list. Krishnendu Mukherjee, 44, a Trinamool booth-level agent from Beliaghata, said he is seeking legal advice to resolve the issue. According to Mukherjee, his name appeared in the draft roll, but when the final roll was published, his case was shown as under adjudication. In the second supplementary list, his name was deleted. On Thursday, at a camp organised by the party to assist deleted voters in filing appeals before the tribunal, Mukherjee entered his EPIC number on the Election Commission website, which displayed: “Search your name in 2003 Bihar electoral roll database”. He said he tried as directed but could not log into the Bihar database. “Of the 10 members of my family, only my name was deleted. I think this was a conspiracy by BJP because I am an active TMC member,” Mukherjee alleged. He said his name was present in the 2002 SIR roll and that his family has lived in Beleghata for years with no connection to Bihar. “I have never visited Bihar. How was my name added there?” he asked. Mukherjee, who served as a booth agent in ward 34, said he had helped fill enumeration forms during door-to-door campaigns and was confident there was no error. “I was not even called for a hearing,” he said. Alokananda Das, councillor of the area, said an eligible voter had lost his right and sought answers. – Poulami Roy
