The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are just six months away, and rumors indicate they’ll get at least one camera upgrade that’s exclusive to the Pro line.
The telephoto camera is getting an upgrade on the iPhone 18 Pro with a larger aperture
Every year, Apple releases new and improved iPhones, and every year you can count on improvements to the camera system.
On the iPhone 18 line, rumors show a new variable aperture feature is coming to the main camera on at least some models. Also, the Ultra Wide camera it can be a new Samsung-made lens across the entire line, replacing the Sony.
There is a camera upgrade rumored that’s exclusive to iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max: a telephoto lens with a larger aperture.

Although Apple’s iPhone 18 lineup may consist of six new models, the Telephoto camera is expected to remain limited to the Pro models. The second rear cameras of the iPhone Fold, iPhone Air 2 and iPhone 18 are all said to be Ultra Wide.
The iPhone 17 Pro improved the Telephoto camera with a new 48MP sensor with 8x zoom, but now the larger aperture of the iPhone 18 Pro will push the camera even further.
With a larger aperture, the improved Telephoto should perform better in low-light situations, with sharper, brighter and more detailed images even in less-than-ideal conditions.
The current Telephoto camera works great when the sun is out, but struggles in darker environments. I’m excited to see how much Apple can improve this year with the iPhone 18 Pro.
