Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni are the two stalwarts of India National Cricket Team. The former just plays one format for the Men in Blue, which is the ODI, and Dhoni has retired from international cricket. But continues to play franchise cricket. The two will be seen together during the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026.
There has always been a debate among the fans of MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli over who has the bigger fan base in India and around the world. The two cricketing stalwarts have millions of followers, with numerous fan pages dedicated exclusively to them. Now, former Australia captain Alyssa Healy has shared her view on the fan base debate.
It’s like, it’s a whole another level’- Alyssa Healy
Healy, while talking on the show named the ‘Willow Talk’, has picked MS Dhoni’s fan base as the best fan base in world cricket. She believes that Virat Kohli’s fan base is just stuck to Bengaluru, while Dhoni’s fans are across the globe and are the loudest of all.
Your daily dose of cricket!
Alyssa Healy said, “Yeah, it’s like, it’s a whole another level. I think you’ve got Virat in Bangalore, and you’ve got MS Dhoni everywhere else. I think it’s, no matter who you’re playing against, there’s always a Dhoni shirt in the crowd, or there’s a hundred of them.”

Que: Have you ever been in the ground when Dhoni enters? How was that?
Alyssa Healy 🎙: Yeah, it’s on a whole another level. I think you’ve got Virat in Bangalore, and you’ve got MS Dhoni everywhere else. It’s the loudest fanbase I’ve ever heard. 👑 pic.twitter.com/XEaHFq7GmW

“And I don’t know if I pronounce it right, but that the Whistle podu that they have there, and the CSK army, it is the loudest thing that you’ll ever hear in international cricket, and it’s in a domestic fixture. So it’s pretty amazing.”
Virat Kohli is a big admirer of MS Dhoni
Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni have had a brotherhood relationship on and off the field. Dhoni groomed a young Virat Kohli, while the latter was appointed as the Test captain back in 2014, and then took over in all formats in 2017, and captained India for four years before stepping down from the T20I format in 2021.
MS Dhoni is the only captain to win all three ICC tournaments, with the T20 World Cup in 2007, the 2011 ODI World Cup, and later on the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy. However, Virat Kohli failed to win any ICC trophies as captain and ended up on the other side on two occasions in the 2017 Champions Trophy and the 2021 World Test Championship (WTC) final.
Despite MS Dhoni being away from international cricket, Kohli often visits the house of the former India captain whenever India plays a match in Ranchi. They were recently spotted at Dhoni’s Ranchi residence around November 27, 2025, ahead of India’s ODI series against South Africa.

The two cricketers were also joined by teammates like Rishabh Pant. They enjoyed a dinner, with Dhoni later seen driving Kohli back to the team hotel. Virat and Dhoni have been the biggest admirers of each other on and off the field.
MS Dhoni has already joined the Chennai Super Kings camp for the IPL, and he was seen having an intense net session. However, Virat is yet to join the RCB camp, as the reigning champions will look to defend their trophy.
