This overnight oats tastes mildly sweet, creamy and filling at the same time. It feels light but keeps you full for a long time. What makes overnight oats different is there is no cooking needed at all. Just mix everything, rest it overnight and breakfast is sorted. It is also easy to digest and not heavy on stomach.

About Overnight Oats

Overnight oats is just a chilled oats made with rolled oats and milk. Oats slowly absorbs the liquid and becomes soft. It is popular among people who prefer quick and healthy option. It feels refreshing to eat the chilled oats. It is also a good option for summer days.

Overnight oats has creamy texture with slight bite from the oats. Chia seeds or sabja seeds makes it more thick in texture. Fruits add natural sweetness and nuts gives a light crunch. Each spoon feels balanced and not too heavy. It does not feel boring even when had daily.

You can make this overnight oats in many ways. You can use different fruits like banana, apple, berries or mango based on what you have.. Milk can be regular, almond or oats milk. Sweetener also can be changed based on taste. It is very flexible recipe and easy to adjust.

I usually make this when next day is going to be very busy. It saves lot of time in the morning. Just take it out from fridge and eat. Sometimes I pack it and take while travelling also.

This overnight oats recipe is a no cook version of putting everything together in a jar and refrigerating it for having breakfast ready for the next day.It is surely helpful for those who don’t have time to cook breakfast, you can make overnight oats ready the previous night itself and relax a bit and wake up late in the morning as your breakfast is already ready in the jar.

This  overnight oats is such a saviour for me especially during summers as its good to have this chilled. You can either use oatmeal or rolled oats or quick cooking oats. You can either use milk or coconut milk or almond milk or yogurt or even water for soaking. For sweetners you can use honey or maple syrup or jaggery syrup or raw cane sugar etc.

Overnight Oats Ingredients

  • Rolled oats – I have used this as the base of the recipe. It soaks well and becomes soft by morning. You can use quick cooking oats also if rolled oats is not there. It gives good texture.
  • Milk – I used to soak the oats for creaminess. You can use also use pant milk or almond milk.
  • Honey – I just added for sweetness. You can add sugar, jaggery syrup or dates syrup also. 
  • Chia seeds or sabja seeds – I added this to thicken the oats. It also makes the dish more filling. You can skip it if you don’t have. But it gives nice texture.
  • Fruits – I just used finely chopped apples. It adds freshness and little crunch. You can add any seasonal fruit you like. 
  • Nuts and dry fruits – I added for texture and taste. It gives nice bite while eating. You can add almonds, cashews or raisins. Chop them small.
  • Vanilla essence – I added for flavor. It gives mild sweet aroma. You can skip it if you don’t like vanilla taste. Little goes long way.

1.First take your serving jar. Add oats to it.

2.Add sabja / chia seeds to it.

3.Add milk, then honey.

4.Mix well with a spoon. Then add chopped apples.

5.Add dry fruits and nuts. Add vanilla essence stir once.

6.Close with lid and refrigerate overnight. Your overnight oats will be ready to serve for next day breakfast. Top it up with milk while serving if its too dry.

Expert Tips

  • Oats choice – I make sure to use rolled oats or quick oats only. Instant oats will become too mushy. Try not to skip this part as texture matters.
  • Sweetness check – I always taste before refrigerating. I adjust honey based on fruit sweetness. You can add more later also if needed.
  • Fruit – I just chop fruits finely so it mixes well. Hard fruits should be cut small. Soft fruits can be added while serving too.
  • Consistency – If oats feels dry in morning, add little milk and mix. I usually do this just before eating.
  • Layering – I just layer fruits and nuts on top instead of mixing. It looks nice and gives better bite while eating.

Serving and Storage

Serve them cold straight from fridge. This goes well as breakfast or even light dinner. You can top it with extra fruits or nuts while serving. Store leftover in refrigerator only. It stays good for a day. Do not keep outside for long time.

FAQS

1.Can I make without chia seeds?

Yes you can skip chia or sabja seeds. Oats will still soak well but texture will be little thin.

2.Can I use quick oats?

Yes quick oats works fine. Avoid using instant oats as it turns too soft.

3.Can I make this in advance?

You can make it one night before. It is best eaten next day morning when fresh.

4.Can I change fruits?

Yes you can use any seasonal fruits. Banana, apple, mango all works well.

5.What if oats feels too thick?

Add little milk before serving and mix well. It will become creamy again.
