Anurag Kashyap, Mira Nair, Nandita Das named in Epstein Files: Why it doesn’t imply misconduct, close allegiance with the sex trafficker | Bollywood News

A few familiar Indian names have cropped up recently in the Epstein Files, linked to the investigation involving millionaire sex offender Jeffrey Epstein put out in public domain by the US Department of Justice. Last Friday, three million additional pages of the Epstein Files were released under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which was signed into law by President Donald Trump on November 19, 2025.

More than 2,000 videos and 1,80,000 images are included in the additional publication. Combined with prior releases, this makes the total production nearly 3.5 million pages. However, while some names that appear in the files may have close allegiance with Epstein’s criminal acts directly or indirectly, one can’t paint all names with that same brush.

Particularly the three names from the Indian entertainment industry, which have surfaced in the Epstein Files, have rather remote associations with Epstein or even his close circle. If finer details are examined, here’s exactly where the names of these three Indian directors show up in the Epstein Files.

Anurag Kashyap

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, best known for helming critically acclaimed movies like Black Friday (2004), Dev.D (2009), and the Gangs of Wasseypur franchise (2012), was recently referred to as “the Bollywood guy” in Epstein Files. Kashyap’s name is mentioned only in the passing as “a famous Bollywood director” along with the likes of computer scientist Ben Goertzel, researcher Bruce Damer, and DJ Spooky.

Kashyap was mentioned as a potential invitee at a proposed event in Shanghai, which entailed workshops on Buddhism, technology, and medicine. It’s part of the email exchanges between Epstein and psychiatrist Giuseppe Bersani, and educators Gino Yu and Ornella Corazza. However, there’s no evidence of Kashyap’s attendance at any of these events.

Mira Nair

Another name that’s cropping up the most is of filmmaker Mira Nair, best known for helming Monsoon Wedding (2001), The Namesake (2006), and A Suitable Boy (2020). As per the files, she attended an “after party” for a film at the townhouse of convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell, as mentioned in one of the emails.

The after party took place after the screening of a film, which is likely to be Nair’s 2010 Hollywood movie Amelia, starring Hillary Swank as aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart, opposite Richard Gere. Not only Nair and the film’s leads, but former US President Bill Clinton and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos were also present at the event. “Film received tepid reaction although women like it much more,” states the email exchanged between publicist Peggy Siegal and the email address “jeevacation@gmail.com”.

While Nair’s passing mention also doesn’t imply any misconduct or close links to Epstein and his associates like Maxwell, her name has been blown out of proportion online thanks to her association with US politics. Her son, former rapper Zohran Mamdani, was recently appointed as the mayor of New York City. Even Artificial Intelligence-generated pictures of Mira and Zohran with Epstein, Maxwell, and others are doing the rounds on social media.

Nandita Das

The third name that’s cropped up from the Indian entertainment landscape in Epstein Files is that of actor-filmmaker Nandita Das. But her link to Epstein is limited to the fact that both of them were invited as speakers by Jem Bendell, a professor of sustainability at the University of Cumbria, at the Lake District Festival in the UK, along with author Charles Eisenstein and PR guru Lynne Frank.

‘They need our support, not screens’: Sonu Sood calls for ‘Under-16′ social media ban after Ghaziabad sisters’ suicide | Bollywood News

A horrific incident in Ghaziabad involving three minor girls has left the entire nation in shock. After the news of three sisters dying by suicide surfaced on the internet, police linked it to their online gaming addiction. As per police officials, the three sisters left an 8-page suicide note that reflected their obsession with online Korean dramas, music and games, and how they were struggling in a large family that was burdened by heavy debt.

The tragedy has once again brought focus on the possible risks of task-based online games and their addiction among children.  On Wednesday, actor Sonu Sood expressed grief and concern over the dangers of digital addiction on his social media handles. Taking to his Instagram account, he requested immediate action to protect children in a video message, spreading awareness about excessive screen exposure turning into a public health concern. “Unhe screen nahi, humara saath chahiye (They don’t need screens, they need our support),” he said in the clip, looking visibly concerned over the incident. “Social media can wait. Childhood can’t, the caption of his post read.

He also shared a tweet on his X handle, urging parents to remain emotionally present in their children’s lives, specially those who have access to smartphones and the digital world. Sonu wrote, “Three young girls lost their lives in Ghaziabad today (broken heart emoji). Not to violence. Not to poverty. But to the unseen pressure of online gaming and digital addiction.”

The actor further added, “I’ve raised my voice before, and I’ll say it again. Social media and online gaming must be restricted for children under 16, except for education. Childhood needs guidance, not algorithms. Social media and online gaming must be restricted for children under 16, except for education. Childhood needs guidance, not algorithms. Care, not constant screens. This isn’t about blame. It’s about protection, before it’s too late. Let this not become another headline we forget. It’s time to act.”

Three Ghaziabad sisters die by suicide

According to the police, the sisters were aged 12, 14, and 16, and jumped from a window of their ninth-floor residence in Bharat City, after their phones were taken away and their father told them to not watch online Korean content. The girls had stopped going to school since over two years, spent most of their time on their mobile phones, the police said.

Additional Commissioner of Police, Ghaziabad, Alok Priyadarshi said, “They were under the influence of K-dramas. They had left school and all their time was spent watching Korean dramas on mobile phones. On Tuesday night, after other members of the family went to sleep, the girls locked themselves in their room and jumped to their death.”

Police officials said they found an eight-page suicide note that revealed the sisters had planned their suicide. According to police, the girls claimed in the note that they were beaten by their parents and were told they will be married off.The police said they responded that they didn’t want to marry, because they “loved Koreans.”

The girls allegedly wrote in their suicide note, “Should we live in this world to be beaten by you? No, death would be better… At the very mention of marriage, we get tense. We like and love Koreans, and we can never accept marriage with Indian men.”

Around 10 days ago, their father had deleted their social media accounts with Korean names and confiscated their mobile phones. Their father sold the mobile phones to pay his electricity bill. They wrote in a pocket diary: “Korean was our life, so how dare you make us leave our life?” the girls remarked. “You didn’t know how much we loved them. Now you’ve seen the proof. Now we are convinced that Korean and K-Pop are our life. We didn’t love you and family as much as we loved the Korean actor and the K-Pop group. Korean was our life.”

After streaming for three seasons, Prime Video India’s popular crime thriller show Mirzapur is coming back, but in a form that’s bigger and better. Mirzapur The Movie, a movie set in the same world as the show, has wrapped up production and also has a release date now. All primary cast members are expected to return for the big-screen outing, along with some new entrants.

On Thursday, the makers and cast of Mirzapur took to Instagram to share the first poster of Mirzapur The Movie. The still shows a cavalry of gangsters heading out into the desert. Four jeeps at the front are full of armed men protecting the black SUV that trails them. Attached to that SUV is the Mirzapur wooden throne, as all the cars speed off on the sand dunes towards the sunset.

The poster also announces the release date of Mirzapur The Movie — September 4. “Ab dekhiye bhaukaal bade parde par. Watch #MirzapurTheMovie releasing at your nearest theatres on 4th September,” states the Instagram caption. The makers wrapped up the shooting of Mirzapur The Movie only earlier this week as the film will now enter the post-production phase.

Directed by Gurmmeet Singh, who has previously helmed the series, the film is set to bring back Pankaj Tripathi as Kaleen Bhaiya, Ali Fazal as Guddu Pandit, Shweta Tripathi as Gajgamini Gupta aka Golu, Rasika Dugal as Beena Tripathi, and Divyenndu as Munna Tripathi. While Divyenndu’s character gets shot in the season 2 finale, the events of Mirzapur The Movie are set before the end of the first season.

Thus, Shriya Pilgaonkar will also reprise her role of Sweety Gupta in the film. While Vikrant Massey will not be a part of the project, his role of Bablu Pandit will be essayed by Jeetendra Kumar. Mirzapur The Movie also stars Harshita Gaur, Sushant Singh, Sheeba Chadha, Rajesh Tailang, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, and Sonal Chauhan.

Neha dhupia karan johar.jpg

Neha Dhupia has completed more than 20 years in the film industry. But it’s only now that she’s started to feel like it’s her Plan A. Having acted across mainstream and arthouse films, OTT and TV shows like Roadies, and producing and hosting a podcast in No Filter Neha among other gigs, she’s kept herself busy even when her phone wasn’t ringing. On this edition of SCREEN Spotlight, she looks back at her two decade-plus career, its highs and lows, her rather odd breakthrough with Julie, her recent OTT roles, and going back to work post motherhood.

You’ve been quite vocal about the uncertainty of not getting the next job despite working consistently in the film industry for over 20 years. Why do you still feel insecure about that?

When I was younger, I felt like what’s next? And maybe not this, then what? I was always surviving on whether the film industry is my Plan A or Plan B. It’s taken me 20+ years to understand this is my Plan A. And we’re actually getting started. No matter what, one way or the other, between me and people who hire me, this is where I’m going to be. Honestly, it’s only now I get this feeling. It’s taken too long, but try hard as you want to, I’m not going anywhere.

What has prompted this change? Why have you begun to feel secure now?

I’ve done everything from mainstream cinema to multiplex or arthouse films. I could’ve been this person in 2015 who said I’m not doing No Filter Neha because people would think I’m out of work. Which wasn’t the truth because I did that, but I also did a Tumhari Sulu (2017). So, it’s about getting beyond what people think. I started feeling this when I began receiving from the 360 — whether it’s doing reality TV like Roadies, doing my podcast, being a part of movies and OTT, doing live events, stage shows, and brand endorsements. When there’s surround sound from everywhere, you know one way or the other, people know you belong here and are going to reach out. I’m still saying I’m not on top of the game, but at least I’m part of the game.

Going back to the start, you made your Hindi film debut with Qayamat: City Under Threat (2003), but would it be right to say your breakthrough was Julie (2004)?

I don’t know. Breakthrough for some, but for me, I was put in a box. I still feel it was seen for what it was marketed on. But I genuinely feel I put in a lot of work, but it went unnoticed because of that. There was this backless poster. They called me a ‘sex symbol’. I then wanted to do other things of colour, but that gets tough, man!

Neha Dhupia in Julie Neha Dhupia in Julie.

How did you break out of that Julie image then?

I had already signed another film like that (Kya Kool Hain Hum, 2005), but I didn’t realize that it would have these repercussions. I was never in a position that I’d go to the producer and say I don’t want to be a part of this. But I’d most definitely want to be in a position where post that, not that these were wrong, but make choices that would take me away from getting an image. It was really hard to get out of that image, especially as an actress back then. It’s like driving a car. You’ve to come back to neutral before you can switch to a higher or lower gear. So, I was back to neutral. I was home for a little while. Then I got a small, little role in Garam Masala (2005) as a guest appearance. Then I did Chup Chup Ke (2007).

Since there was clearly no intimacy coordinator back then, how comfortable was it for a young female actor to do a film like Julie?

It was odd. I did do a film like Lust Stories (2018) later, but the only intimacy I had there was with an object (laughs). And it was guided by Karan Johar, because of whom you know it will be shot beautifully. I’ve never worked with an intimacy coordinator, but for me, it was just about doing the job and getting out. It’s also tough to be on a harness. When you’re eight months pregnant, getting fully drenched in rain on the sets of A Thursday (2022), is it a hard day on set? Yes! So ya, intimate scenes are tough and odd, but also clinical and desensitized. But ya, playing a therapist (Perfect Family) and someone who runs an orphanage (Single Papa) is definitely far less stressful (laughs).

Neha Dhupia in Single Papa. Neha Dhupia in Single Papa.

You’ve had a great year on OTT, from Perfect Family to Single Papa. Has streaming also lent a new lease of life to your career?

A lot of OTT work was happening when I had both my kids, but I wasn’t getting any. Post that, I started reaching out to people. “My son is three years old, my daughter is five years old. They’re going to big schools. So, please if there’s anything for me?” I then remember Mukesh Chhabra (casting director) reaching out to me for Perfect Family and Samar Khan (producer) calling me for Single Papa. When you’re doing the job, you just do it. You don’t know how many people would watch it. But the love I’ve got for both made me feel again just when I thought it was over, I realized I still have it in me. But when you feel like you’re done is the toughest, right? I’ve been through those waves so many times that I know how to ride them. Also, having a partner like Angad Bedi helps because he knows the most important day to take your wife out for a meal is the day she doesn’t crack an audition. On the day of the anniversary, it’s not that important because we know we’re busy shooting.

Lust Stories 2 wasn’t your first Karan Johar film, right? You also did a voice role in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016), of the reporter who interviews Ranbir Kapoor’s character. How did that happen?

I called Karan once, twice, thrice for my podcast. He heard my voice so many times that he got fed up and asked me to come do this voiceover. I still remember Sanjay Kapoor cracking this joke, “Arey! Teri picture ne Rs 100 crore kar liye!” Ya, that’s funny.

Story continues below this ad

Didn’t you then tell Karan that the next one better be more than a voice role?

No, I have some great friendships in business. And they’re great because I don’t exploit them professionally. But when I feel like there’s something me or my friends feel I might fit into, I reach out or they reach out. But otherwise it’s not a daily call saying, “What’s happening? Where am I getting cast today?” (laughs). None of that happens.

Roadies has been a constant part of your career for 10 years now, ever since you became a judge/gang leader in season 14. Was it difficult for you to do Roadies right after you had your firstborn, Meher?

That year, we went to Kerala for 45-50 days. But Roadies sets are conducive for babies everywhere. There are also a lot of breaks, but the only person who’s extremely tired by the end of the day is the mother. But being a mother and a professional is a choice you’ve made, at least in my case. I didn’t want to miss out on the opportunity. I called up my mother and asked her if she’d be with me for those 45-50 days. She said, “You do it for your daughter. I’d do it for mine.” It was a leap of faith, but Meher was absolutely fine. It’s now become a story to tell.

Rannvijay Singh and Neha Dhupia on Roadies. Rannvijay Singh and Neha Dhupia on Roadies.

How was it going back for the latest season after skipping two previous ones?

I went back after four years as a gang leader, but also as a mother of two. I don’t think the fight in me died at all. Yes, I wasn’t yelling and screaming as much, but there was a different kind of fight. Do my children see I’m having good and bad days? Do they see me struggling at work? I don’t think there should be shame in any of that. They’re being raised by someone fiercely competitive. In a year or two, my kids will be ready to watch Chup Chup Ke. But will they be ready to watch the rest of the work I’ve done? No, not at all. But they’ll get there soon. They may watch Julie some day, but will I have a lot of explaining to do? I hope not.

You said that you and Angad are very similar because of both your profession and your Punjabi ancestry. But how are you guys fundamentally different?

At many levels. Believe it or not, he’s a lot more social than I am, which comes across as a surprise to everybody. He knows how to say yes or no more professionally. I mostly say yes to the opportunities that come my way. He likes to pace things out a little bit. I like the rush and hustle of it. I’m an early sleeper and riser, he’s not. He’s great at parallel parking, I suck at it. He likes reading on gadgets, I still like books with hard tops. He talks a lot more. There’s a time he gets chattier, post half past nine. He’s more nocturnal for sure.

Is there a favourite Angad Bedi performance?

When we started dating, there was a real-life Angad Bedi performance where there was nobody on the road, he found a parking spot, played a Diljit Dosanjh song, and started doing bhangra on the road. I was like, cute, could marry this guy. I’m just kidding. I know a lot of people would say Pink (2016) or Soorma (2018), but Arvind Vashisth from Inside Edge is my favourite.

Have you ever thought of developing something for the both of you to star in together?

I did, but the industry is going through a tough phase. Some of the strongest players in the business aren’t able to gauge the market. Just when I was on the cusp of producing something, the market became very volatile. Nobody knows when it gets better. Even those who knew the market don’t anymore. So, I’m going to give it some more time. Never say never. I did produce No Filter Neha and had a good run of six years. I don’t think I can direct, but producing is definitely still on the cards.

Singer-composer Palash Muchhal and cricketer Smriti Mandhana’s wedding, which was supposed to take place in November 2025 was cancelled just a day before the ceremony. Palash was later accused of allegedly cheating on Smriti. However, in their official statement, the families had cited the ill health of Smriti’s father as the reason for postponing the wedding. Now, actor Nandish Sandhu, who was present at the venue, has opened up about what happened there.

Speaking to Miss Malini, Nandish refused to comment on the infidelity accusations against Palash and said, “It’s better not to say anything on that right now. And let Palash speak from his side,” he said. He also claimed that no one had reached out to Palash to hear his side of the story.

Recalling what happened in Sangli, he said, “I’d gone for the wedding. That didn’t happen. And I just got to know that it’s not happening at the moment.” He also shared that it was a medical emergency involving Smriti Mandhana’s father, which was communicated as the reason for postponing the wedding. “It’s postponed because what came out in the news, the same thing was there. Conveyed to you guys. Conveyed to everybody. Smriti’s dad wasn’t well. He was in the hospital. And that’s why everything has been postponed,” he explained.

Nandish said that he feels bad about the situation and claimed that he learnt about accusations against Palash through media reports. “Later on, I got to know through the news and media that this is what has been printed and this is happening. And I feel bad about it,” he said.

Nandish also spoke about the couple’s relationship and said, “Whatever the reason might have been, the wedding didn’t happen. And you know, I’ve seen the love. I’ve seen how madly they were in love for the last five, six years. They were such a cute, nice couple.”

Earlier, Vidnyan Mane, who claimed to be a childhood friend of Smriti Mandhana, made allegations against Palash. He told Hindustan Times, “I was at the wedding celebrations (November, 23, 2025) when he was caught red-handed with another woman in bed. Bhayanak scene tha, he was beaten up by the Indian female cricketers. The entire family is chindi chor. I thought he’d get married and settle in Sangli, but it has completely backfired on me.”

Actor R Madhavan recently opened up about a turning point in his career when he took a four-year break from acting that helped him reset, both personally and professionally. The actor shared that stepping away from films gave him clarity, helping him return with a renewed focus and a willingness to pick projects that genuinely excited him, including a steady shift towards OTT platforms. While discussing this phase, Madhavan added a humorous anecdote involving his wife, recalling how she pushed him to get back to work during the pandemic.

When Madhavan’s wife Sarita kicked him out of the house

During a conversation with the YouTube channel Unfiltered Entertainment, Madhavan recalled the moment with humour. He spoke about how she pushed him to get back into the rhythm of work during the pandemic. “My wife says you’ll never be able to get out of work — you do Tamil comedy, Tamil action, OTT, Hindi action, English OTT. I am surprised you are at home. During COVID in 2020, she kicked me out of the house and told me, ‘Go out, do some work, earn money.’”

Madhavan’s wife made him realise he needs to change

Beyond the joke, Madhavan explained that it was Sarita’s honest observation about his state of mind that truly made him pause and reassess. He shared how she noticed a change in his attitude towards work.

“One day, my wife asked me, ‘What’s wrong with you?’ She said that you are going to work like you want to come back from it. That actually made a lot of sense,” Madhavan said.

Madhavan’s wife thinks he is a ‘fool’

Over the past year, the actor has continued to speak about his personal life, often talking about the role his wife plays in keeping him grounded, particularly when it comes to money. During an interview with Just Too Filmy in 2023, Madhavan revealed how Sarita views his approach to finances.

“My wife thinks I am generous to a fault. And I am a fool. And I don’t know how to handle my money. She thinks I keep giving it away. I think I’m very particular about it, but she says not even from a remote corner are you particular about it. I spend what I have.”

At the same time, Madhavan has been clear that while he may not be overly cautious about spending, he is mindful of staying within his limits.

“I am not very careful about my spending but I always live within my means so if I desire to have a bigger car or better stuff… but if it doesn’t fit my budget, I will not buy it. I don’t have worldly possessions; that is the reflection of my stardom. But I do have the liberty that this stardom offers me and I enjoy it,” he said.

Recalling their first interaction in a 2011 interview with The Times of India, the actor had said, “She was aspiring for a job in an airliner and attended my classes. When she finally bagged the cat, she thought it was in part due to my classes and took me to a ‘thank you’ dinner. That’s how it started.”

‘Priyanka Chopra was stalked by boys in Bareilly; father put iron bars after a boy broke in,’ recalls mom Madhu | Bollywood News

Priyanka Chopra threw birthday party for mother Madhu six days after fathers passing.jpg

4 min readChennaiFeb 4, 2026 08:35 PM IST

From the bylanes of Bollywood to global domination, Priyanka Chopra has risen and represented India on the global stage like only a few artistes are able to do. The actor, who was born in Jharkhand and lived in Bareilly for several years, was just 17 years old when she won the title of Miss India. However, before this, her parents had sent her to the US when she was 13 for her education. When she returned home after living in the US for a few years, she was a teenager who dressed and spoke like an American.

This became a problem as mnay boys in Bareilly started following her whenever she stepped out. This led to her parents worrying about her security, and they even asked Priyanka to dress down and stop wearing western outfits.

‘Boys started following, put up iron bars after boy jumped in the house’

In an old interaction with Lehren Retro, Priyanka’s mother Madhu Chopra spoke about the same. She recalled how they enrolled the Dostana actor in a convent school in Bareilly after her return from the US and ensured she was picked up and dropped off in a car so that they could keep her safe. But this did not stop boys from following her. “We put her in a convent school. We would pick and drop her in the car because her father was strict that you can’t go anywhere alone. Boys started following our car so it started getting unsafe,” she said.

Things became serious when a boy jumped into Priyanka’s house, prompting her “overly protective” father, who “did not want any kind of trouble,” to put up iron fences across the house so that not even a monkey could enter. “One day, a boy jumped our fence and entered our house. That was scary. The next day, her father covered the entire house with iron bars. From the boundary to the terrace… even monkeys couldn’t enter. That house is still the same,” she said.

‘Priyanka stopped wearing western outfits’

Madhu and Ashok soon realised that their daughter was not meant for a small town and decided to move to a bigger city, possibly Delhi. “He said we will put her in the army school so she can move with us,” she recalled. She added, “We were like chote sheher mein badi machhi (small fish in a big pond) and then you can’t have anybody coming into your house and messing with you toh humara bhi toda rutba tha hi (we also had a good reputation).”

However, Priyanka’s parents did not just tighten security around her; they also asked her to reassess her wardrobe and stop wearing western clothes. Recalling how Priyanka changed her wardrobe completely after a serious conversation with her father, Madhu said, “I don’t know what conversation they had. The next day, she came back from school and said she wants to go shopping. I took her and she selected such dull and drab clothes… all salwar kurtas. She selected colours like off white, brown, beige to look dull,” she said, adding, “I don’t know what he said. She never told me and he also didn’t tell me but this was the reaction. After that, she did not wear western clothes in Bareilly.”

Bollywood actors and couple Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia Deshmukh recently appeared on tennis star Sania Mirza’s podcast Serving with Sania. During the conversation, Sania asked Riteish an unexpected question: how did it feel to play her on screen? The question had the actor laughing as he recalled the moment.

Riteish had played Kishan in the 2006 comedy Apna Sapna Money Money, a conman who assumes multiple identities, including the female characters Sunaina and Sania.

When Riteish Deshmukh played Sania

Sania recalled when she met Riteish years ago, he told her, “I am playing you”. She couldn’t help but think, “I don’t look that manly!”

Riteish then remembered the sequence with veteran actor Anupam Kher. “There’s a scene where Anupam Kher asks, ‘Tumhara naam kya hai?’ and I reply, ‘Mera naam… mera naam…’ as the camera pans to your poster, and I say, ‘Sania,’” he said, laughing at the memory.

Riteish on playing a woman on screen

Riteish admitted playing a woman on screen came with its own set of challenges. “It was very difficult for two reasons. First, none of my contemporaries were attempting something like this at the time. Second, a man portraying a woman on screen is obviously not the most appealing sight. On top of that, my father was then the chief minister, so I was also thinking about how it would be received, given that he was a public figure. It made the role even more challenging.”

Getting waxed for the role

Riteish then revealed Genelia Deshmukh was his go-to for advice for the character . “I was constantly in touch with Genelia about what to do and what not to do. I even went a bit overboard – I did waxing and threading as part of method acting. It was the most painful experience, and my hair actually stopped growing for a while,” he joked. “But when you see audiences laughing in theatres, that’s the ultimate gratification. That’s what makes it all worth it.”

Genelia praised her husband’s performance: “I don’t think anybody could have done it better than he did.”

Riteish’s first day on the set playing a woman

Riteish also shared how nervous he was on the first day of the shoot. “The first time I got ready, it took me 2–3 hours. As I walked from the van to the set, I kept my umbrella low because I didn’t know how to face anyone. Anupam Kher and Chunky Pandey were there and they made me feel so comfortable. That was the most nervous I’ve ever been on set,” he revealed.

He added, “Particularly in comedy films, while audiences watch the screen, we watch the audience. The laughter, the noise from the seats when audiences move as they laugh, that’s what tells you if a scene is working. Hearing that sound was such a thrill, it made all the pain and preparation worth it.”

Apna Sapna Money Money, the 2006 Bollywood comedy, follows a cast of characters on a madcap chase for wealth. The film stars Riteish Deshmukh alongside Suniel Shetty, Shreyas Talpade, Celina Jaitly, Koena Mitra, and Jackie Shroff.

The makers of Dacoit have officially postponed the film’s release to April 10. Originally scheduled to hit theatres on March 19, the Mrunal Thakur and Adivi Sesh starrer was set to clash at the box office with Ranveer Singh’s much-anticipated Dhurandhar: The Revenge and Yash’s highly awaited Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups. To avoid the high-voltage clash and ensure fair theatrical space, the makers decided to shift the release date. Dacoit, which also stars filmmaker-actor Anurag Kashyap, has already generated significant buzz, and the team wants to give the film a fair run at the box office.

Dacoit pushed to April 10 release

In an official statement, the makers expressed their deep respect for Dhurandhar and Toxic and their respective creative teams. They stated that every theatrical release deserves its own uninterrupted space with audiences.

Confident in their content and storytelling, the producers said the decision to revisit the release timeline stems from clarity and fairness. The move is aimed at ensuring that the Adivi Sesh starrer gets its rightful moment on the big screen, while also allowing audiences to experience each film on its own terms.

Echoing the sentiment, a source told Bollywood Hungama, “Staying true to that thought, the decision to move to April 10 comes from a place of fairness and clarity, ensuring that Dacoit gets its due spotlight while audiences can enjoy all films on their own terms. It also reflects strategic planning and thoughtful timing, focused on the film’s theatrical experience.”

Directed by Abhinay Deo, Dacoit is produced by Supriya Yarlagadda and backed by SS Creations and Suniel Narang Productions.

When Adivi Sesh said Dhurandhar rush will benefit Dacoit

Previously in a press conference for Toxic, Adivi had spoke about the potential box office clash with Dhurandhar 2 and Toxic. He shared, “I am not nervous about the clash. I am only nervous about whether the audience will like our film or not. Life has a way of surprising people. Just two years ago, big filmmakers were telling me that people had stopped going to theatres — but look at what is happening with Dhurandhar. It has become a juggernaut.”

He added: “So I thought, if Dhurandhar can become a juggernaut, why not give audiences a beautiful set of options during the holiday season? We have Eid, Sri Ram Navami, Gudi Padwa and Ugadi coming up. Right now, Dhurandhar is the country’s biggest hit, and I want Part 2 to become the world’s biggest hit. With all this in mind, I believe that those who don’t get tickets for Dhurandhar might just drop by to watch Dacoit,” he added.

March 19: Dhurandhar 2 vs Toxic

Meanwhile, Dhurandhar, whose first part released on December 5 last year, went on to become one of the highest-grossing films of the year and secured a spot among the top three highest-earning Hindi films. The film shattered multiple box office records, creating massive anticipation for its sequel. The film earned Rs 1328.23 crore globally, according to the makers while its India collection stands at Rs 879.75 crore.

On the other hand, Geetu Mohandas’ Toxic will mark Yash’s return to the big screen after nearly four years. The actor was last seen in KGF: Chapter 2. Notably, Toxic is only Yash’s third film release in almost a decade. He will also be seen playing the role of Ravana in Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming Ramayan.
