Arijit Singh became the favourite voice of the Indian audience, no matter the language they prefer, in a very short duration of his career. Not just that, but he topped the charts and beat the records set by other Indian singers and musicians of his generation through his solo songs as well as those sung in collaboration with other Indian and international musicians like Ed Sheeran (Sapphire). While the popular Arijit Singh songs lyrics almost broke the hearts of many, the singer actually did so with the announcement of his retirement on January 27, 2026.

Why Did Arijit Singh Retire?

Amid his successful career and a time with no controversies surrounding him, Arijit Singh’s retirement from playback singing came as a sudden shock to his fans. His success was clearly seen in the Arijit Singh live show fees as he charges Rs 14 crore to perform for just 2 hours live. He made the announcement on his Twitter/X account that he won’t be taking any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on, and the future Arijit Singh new song that will be released will be those that he has already recorded in the past, which we are sure are countless.
However, everyone still thought, “Why did Arijit Singh quit singing?” Well, the superstar singer gave an answer to that too as he said, “I am a fan of good music and in the future will be learning more and doing more on my own as a small little artist.” Hence, it leads to assumptions that Arijit can still compose several songs or music albums as he did for Pagglait (2021). Additionally, he also wishes to show his creativity and domain in other fields, as he is currently working on his feature film directorial debut.
After Arijit Singh’s retirement, many popular names from the industry, like singer Abhijeet Sawant and Armaan Malik, highlighted the poor treatment singers get from studios and music labs in Bollywood.
