Sai Sudharsan challenges Abhishek Sharma for T20I spot

Date:

Gujarat Titans batter Sai Sudharsan has geared up for the upcoming season of the IPL and has shared his wish to win a World Cup someday with India, after he witnessed the Men in Blue roar to victory in the home T20 World Cup.

The Indian left-handed batter’s domestic season was cut short after his South Africa Test series for India ended in a disaster. He then went on to score runs for Tamil Nadu in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy, before being sidelined with a rib injury.

He has resumed training and increased his workload in the nets and will only be available for the upcoming season of the IPL for the Gujarat Titans. He finished as the highest run getter in the previous season, with an amazing 759 runs in 2025.

I wish to be part of the World Cup winning team one day- Sai Sudharsan

Sai Sudharsan witnessed the Indian team dominate the T20 World Cup in 2026 on home soil and wished to be part of one such setup someday. Like every young cricketer, he too wishes to win a World Cup for India someday.

“I enjoyed watching our team win the world cup. It was a brilliant team performance where each and everyone contributed. Our coaches guided the team in a splendid manner and the support staff too was spot on.

“On the whole it was a memorable performance and I wish to be part of the World Cup winning team one day,” he said.

He is a class player. One can learn from watching him play- opined Sudharsan on skipper Shubman Gill

Sai Sudharsan is keen to open the innings for the Gujarat Titans with the Indian veteran opener Shubman Gill. Gill himself would have much to prove after being snubbed from the T20I setup ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup.

“I am looking forward to playing with Gill. He is a class player. One can learn from watching him play. He has always encouraged me to play my natural game. His inputs and observations have been spot-on and made me a better player,” says Sudharsan highlighting Gill’s role behind his development as a T20 cricketer.

“Gill plays fluently and it is a delight to watch. I hope we are able to forge good partnerships for our side,” said Sai Sudarshan while also opining that the Titans have a very balanced side going into this IPL.

I am practicing power hitting and so on to keep in tune with the format – Sai Sudharsan

After having played so well the last season, Sai Sudharsan was asked whether he feels the heat to do more in the season or whether he is burdened by the expectation of fans who wish to witness him perform.

The player said with ease that what he wishes is only performance and is not bothered by any kind of pressure.

“There is no pressure. I am glad people expect you to perform. I just want to go and play my game and take one match at a time. I am practicing power hitting and so on to keep in tune with the format. It (IPL) is a good opportunity for me to be back among runs and try to get back into the national side,” he concluded.
