Abhishek Sharma’s huge fan following caused jealousy among some of his other teammates, Sanju Samson revealed at the India Today Conclave 2026. Samson jokingly said that wherever they went to play for Team India, most of the crowds gathered only to see a glimpse of the left-handed batter.
Samson often wondered whether there was hardly anyone in the crowd who had come to see the Indian cricket team players, other than Sharma. The massive popularity is because of the rapid rise of the batter, from the Indian Premier League to the Indian National Cricket Team dressing room- the southpaw’s growth was rapid with his flamboyant batting approach.

IPL 2024 was the turning point in Sharma’s career
IPL 2024 was a turning point in Sharma’s career. He rampaged in almost every venue with the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to quickly grab the attention. In IPL 2024, the opener scored 484 runs in 16 matches and 16 innings, powered by 36 fours and 42 sixes in total. The strike rate of 204.21 is the burning proof of how fearlessly the batter used to hit the bowlers in that season.
After such a dominating performance, there was no turning back for Abhishek Sharma. He swiftly got to play for the senior national team in the T20 International format, where he continued his hallmark batting- smashing the bowlers all around the park, no matter which venue he played for.
Sharma said that he wants to represent Team India in all three formats. With the target in front, he will continue the process as he did in the past. As of now, Sharma confirmed that there is no stopping him.
The ultimate goal is to play all formats for India: Abhishek Sharma
“Obviously, the ultimate goal is to play all formats for India as much as I can. But I’ve stopped thinking too much about those things because they are not in my hands. I just want to follow the process I’ve been taught over the last two years by Yuvraj Singh”, Abhishek Sharma said, acknowledging the former India all-rounder’s role behind his growth.
“That’s the one thing I’ve learnt – if it’s not in my hands, I shouldn’t worry about it. I just need to perform and help win games in whatever format I’m playing right now. But of course, playing ODI cricket for India is also a dream if I get that opportunity”, he also said in the conclave.
