Stephen Fleming provides massive update on Dewald Brevis during RCB vs CSK clash

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach Stephen Fleming provides a latest update on their star batter Dewald Brevis, who has missed back-to-back two IPL 2026 matches for CSK.

It was previously confirmed that the South African batter was set to miss multiple matches on the season, but when he could make a return was yet to be clear. There are a lot of claims and speculations that have been running across social media platforms for the past few days.

CSK head coach confirmed the return of Dewald Brevis in IPL 2026

Finally, it was the head coach who broke the silence on behalf of the team. The former New Zealand cricketer and currently CSK head coach, Stephen Fleming, mentioned that Dewald Brevis can make a return in the next match. “Hope Brevis comes back in the next game,” Fleming said during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Chennai Super Kings (RCB vs CSK) match at the M. Brevis had suffered a side injury during training and missed CSK’s defeats against Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings. The injury to the batter was also confirmed by the coach. Ahead of their clash against the Rajasthan Royals, the Kiwi coach mentioned that the South African batter had a side injury during a training session. Without Brevis in the line-up, CSK suffered two consecutive defeats.

“Brevis is out. He had a side injury during training. He is rehabbing. Hopefully, won’t be [out] for too long,” the Chennai Super Kings head coach previously mentioned, ahead of their match against the Rajasthan Royals.

Why is Dewald Brevis considered a key asset for the Chennai Super Kings?

The emerging batter is considered very crucial for the team as he can provide some extra firepower in the combination. As an impact player, Brevis can play a vital role under any circumstances and will help the team management to balance the team combination as well.

Last year, when the team was struggling to get extra runs from their middle-order, the inclusion of Dewald Brevis proved instantly effective. Brevis was signed by CSK as an injury replacement in IPL 2025.

He instantly found himself in the playing combination of the team. He went on to score 225 runs at a strike rate of 180 in the six matches he played and was retained by the five-time champion. Ahead of the IPL 2026 auction, the franchise showed its trust in the batter by retaining him for a full season.

MS Dhoni is also dealing with an injury

Along with the uncertainty over Dewald Brevis, the franchise has been dealing with the injury of their former skipper, MS Dhoni. Like Brevis, Dhoni also remains unavailable to take part in the IPL 2026 matches so far.

Dhoni might take more time to recover in comparison to Brevis’ recovery. CSK fans are hoping to see these two star players soon in action in the ongoing tournament.
