People have been talking about India’s choice to leave out Axar Patel who is an all-rounder from their T20 World Cup Super 8 match against South Africa. The Indian team lost the match by 76 runs because Washington Sundar who replaced Axar failed to perform well with both bat and ball. Sunil Gavaskar who is a legendary former Indian cricket captain at the time of the upcoming match against Zimbabwe stated that Axar should return to the team and he proposed that Axar should take Arshdeep Singh’s position. “I would look at bringing Axar Patel back into the playing XI because Zimbabwe’s team currently has few left-handed batters.” Gavaskar said on JioStar that Arshdeep Singh should be replaced by Arshdeep Singh.
” But Arshdeep bowled so well against South Africa and you wouldn’t want to change somebody who looked in such good rhythm. So the team might remain unchanged because they will continue using their current players according to his explanation
The Indian assistants Ryan Ten Doeschate and Sitanshu Kotak who works as batting coach confirmed that their tactical needs determined their choice to select a specific player.
” Yeah, we spent so much time deliberating about the eleven over the last couple of days. The team examined match-ups throughout the match. The decision to start Axar appeared correct in retrospect but at that moment the team needed Rinku to function as their eighth batter. The decision was based around there,” the straight-talking Ten Doeschate replied to a query from the PTI during the post-match press conference.
He repeatedly stressed that the decision isn’t a reflection of how Axar is perceived in the team or whether the vice-captain is dispensable.
“Ten Doeschate said that Axar contributes significant value to his team through his leadership abilities.
