The Indian team boasts an impressive record at Narendra Modi Stadium, having won seven of their 10 T20I matches at the venue. However, the Men in Blue are leaving nothing to chance ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 final against New Zealand on March 8 in Ahmedabad.
Despite their strong record at the venue, memories of the heartbreaking defeat to Australia in the final of the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup continue to linger within the camp. India suffered a painful loss on November 19, 2023, at the same stadium, a result that still haunts fans and players alike.
Keeping that in mind, the team management has reportedly taken a few precautionary steps ahead of the summit clash. According to News18, the Indian team has decided to change both their hotel and dressing room arrangements for the final.
During the 2023 ODI World Cup final, the Indian team had stayed at ITC Narmada. With memories of that defeat still fresh, the players have now opted to move to a different hotel ahead of the T20 World Cup final. The decision is believed to be influenced by a sense of superstition within the camp. Earlier, the team has been cautious in its preparation schedule, even choosing to avoid practice sessions during the recent lunar eclipse.
“Nobody knows this. I am revealing this for the first time. A lot of people are afraid that Ahmedabad is an unlucky ground for India. India team delayed their practice due to a lunar eclipse in Mumbai; they have been spiritual. In Ahmedabad, the Indian team will not stay in the same hotel as the 2023 ODI World Cup final. India is also going to change their dressing room. They will be using the visiting team’s dressing room. There’s one more change, but I cannot say it now. Maybe I will reveal if India wins the T20 World Cup,” veteran journalist Vimal Kumar said.
Earlier, the International Cricket Council (ICC) had already confirmed ITC Narmada as the accommodation for the first finalist, which turned out to be New Zealand. Therefore, it was not possible for the Indian team to stay there, and their move to Taj Skyline is purely coincidental rather than a deliberate switch.
