Thriller drama is a genre in which films need to be gripping and hard-hitting in their storytelling and screenplays. The burden of expectations for such movies increases when they are part of a franchise and based on real-life events revolving around serious topics like religious conversion, as with The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond. A sequel equally controversial as its blockbuster prequel with an equally serious subject has hit the theaters, but does it connect with the audience, too? Read our The Kerala Story 2 review to know.

The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond – Movie Plot

Three girls, Surekha (Ulka Gupta), Divya (Aditi Bhatia), and Neha (Aishwarya Ojha), are happy with their regular, not-interconnected lives. Soon, they all fall into relationships with Salim (Sumit Gahlawat), Faizan (Arjan Singh Aujla), and Rasheed (Yuktam Khosla).
All three of them wish to marry their respective partners, while their parents force them to reconsider their decision. However, the marriage still happens for two of the girls. While things seem right initially, they go wrong later on as they learn the dark intentions of their respective partners revolving around religious conversion. What happens in their lives later forms the rest of the film.

A Half-Baked Storyline

One of the major shortcomings of the film that can be noted in The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond review is its half-baked storyline, for which one can clearly say that the makers intentionally did not spend much time cooking.
The Kerala Story 2 Goes Beyond film does not even try to give the three leading ladies a build-up, as their personal and family lives pre-marriage are treated like running on a fast-forward mode. Such a treatment results in nonexistent character arcs for the leads and creates a film that aims to incite anger in you but fails at that, too.
This fast-forwardness is the result of The Kerala Story 2 director and writer trying to focus as much as possible on the part that draws controversy, i.e., the forcible conversions and the ill-treatment of the three leading Hindu ladies.
A subject like The Kerala Story 2 needs to be driven by thrills and drama, both of which are absent in the film,, except for for a few well-hitting dramatic moments. This lack is what influences the downgrade of the film to not being worthy of much praise.

The kerala story 2 cast

A Rushed Climax

The climax of this sequel is very rushed, featuring forced and conventional speeches that lack the emotional appeal to make the viewer feel something deep inside their heart or mind. While the climax of the story does carry some curiosity, barely any moment sustains that curiosity as the evil minds and their workings are exposed. What happens to the antagonists further remains a mystery.
The father of the on-screen Instagram influencer (one of the three female leads) begs to their neighbours for community help. While the neighbours initially refuse to provide any help, they do come together at the end, showing the lack of thought process behind the climax.

Predictability Drives the Story

What makes the storyline of the film entirely boring is the predictability. If you have watched the trailer before The Kerala Story 2 release date, you can predict what will happen to the three girls throughout the film. The movie follows such an easily imaginable template.
Additionally, what you see in the film is already known to you if you are updated with daily news revolving around Love Jihad and forced conversions, no matter if that news is real or fake. In such a case, what makes the film better is a gripping storyline and hard-hitting dialogue, both of which are absent from the movie.

Undercooked Bond Between Parents and Daughters

One of the biggest concerns of the life of any Indian parent is getting their daughter married to the right man in the right family. This concern rises to a significantly higher level when the daughter is in a relationship and has chosen an inter-religious love marriage for herself.
However, in The Kerala Story 2, the parents don’t even try or get enough footage while worrying about their daughter’s future. All their efforts are barely featured in the film for a few minutes, while the rest of the film heavily ignores their relationship with their daughters. For a film that claims to be based on real-life events, real life does not work like this.

Where is Kerala in the Film?

One thing where The Kerala Story 1 excelled was choosing a location, which was set in Kerala only. However, The Kerala Story 2 is surprisingly not based in Kerala, hence deceiving its own title. What Kerala gets showcased is only one of the leading ladies speaking the North Indian version of Malayali for less than a minute in the film.
Missing out on such minute but obvious inclusions in the film only supports the fact that The Kerala Story 2 Goes Beyond (2026) is a cash-grab effort with no bigger purpose.

The Kerala Story 2 Cast Performances

The less we talk about the performances of The Kerala Story 2 cast, the better it is for the film. While the sequel walks in the footsteps of the prequel, casting lesser-known faces in the lead and letting the story speak, it is obviously unwatchable. The makers have forgotten to cast actors who can at least act.
While there is a heavy scope of performances driving the film here, neither the actors nor the director understands that scope very well. None of the male or female leads has shown any potential to justify their being paid to act in the film.

The Awful Technical Aspects

The technicians who worked on the film have treated it like a boring cash grab, as evidenced by their work. Technically, the movie is very poor in terms of its bottom line.
Specifically, the film’s music features lyrics that say “Shiv Shambho” and “Shri Ram”, targeting a specific audience on its face, as expected from the film. Among the other technical aspects, they are all collectively an example of lethargic filmmaking.

The Kerala Story Part 1 or Part 2 – Which is Better?

Being a sequel, a question arises about The Kerala Story Part 2: is it better than its prequel? It can be clearly said that even trying to think of it as a better film than The Kerala Story should be a crime.
Where The Kerala Story excelled was the proper character arcs of the leading ladies, the appropriate amount of time devoted to showing their relationships with their respective parents, and not relying on cliches to move the storyline forward. Additionally, the lives of three leading ladies were interconnected with the story set in Kerala.
Against its prequel, The Kerala Story 2 Goes Beyond has treated the film like an anthology. Besides, the lack of research for such a serious subject is clearly visible. Another aspect where the film failed is its silly dialogue, written without even the 0.1% of a sane human mind, just to drive the story forward somehow.
Hence, it is a clear fact that The Kerala Story 2 comes nowhere close to the quality of part 1, and judging by its treatment, shouldn’t have even been a franchise film.

Final Thoughts

As of our overall The Kerala Story 2 review, the film is a waste of resources and the producer’s money, initially spent to bank on a certain sentiment, but failed massively. If you are a fan of such movies, it is recommended that you totally forget that The Kerala Story 2 Goes Beyond release date exists and rewatch The Kerala Story Part 1.
