‘They are bigger than Pakistan’ – Imad Wasim makes bold claim after India’s T20 World Cup triumph | CricTracker

Date:

Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim has applauded India’s T20 World Cup-winning campaign despite scrutiny over pitches and favourable treatment from the ICC and organisers alike.

India won their second-consecutive T20 world title after beating New Zealand by 96 runs in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, March 8.

Wasim, however, suggested that the World Cup had balanced pitches and sometimes the conditions even backfired against India. The Men in Blue still came out on top and in a moment of praise, the 37-year-old stated that their arch-rivals are a much better side than Pakistan in the current cricketing landscape.

“We always hear people saying that umpires favour India or that they prepare spin-friendly pitches, but you have to agree that in this tournament, the pitches were very well balanced. Sometimes, the conditions were even against India, but they still managed to deliver a dominating performance,” Imad said on a Pakistani TV show as quoted by NDTV.

“So, we should not always nitpick or claim that India are looking for an escape route. As a cricketing nation, we have to praise them for their performance and accept the fact that they are bigger than us (Pakistan) and many other teams,” he added.

India have dominated recent ICC events

In winning the 2026 T20 World Cup, India became the first men’s side to retain the trophy. The Suryakumar Yadav-led outfit also became the first host nation to win the 20-over crown whilst also becoming the first team to win it three times.

India’s domination in white-ball ICC events is second to none. The Men in Blue have now won three consecutive ICC titles. These include the 2024 T20 World Cup, the 2025 Champions Trophy and now the 2026 T20 World Cup.

Pakistan, on the other hand, have not lifted an ICC honour for nine years. Their last triumph came back in 2017 when they won the Champions Trophy in England and Wales where they beat India in the final at the Oval.
