Two reasons helped record iPhone sales, and both are orange

Date:

Apple reported recently better iPhone sales in the company’s history in the last quarter of last year. While the long-term trend has certainly been upward, the company revealed a dramatic boost to the numbers.

We’ve already seen analysts outline some of the reasons for this, but a new report suggests two additional factors — and both are orange…

Record sales of iPhone, with key China

Apple’s latest earnings report revealed that the company had its own best fiscal quarter everwith record iPhone sales a key element of this. China was a major contributor to this success, completely reversing a flat or declining trend over the previous six quarters.

Today, Apple is proud to report an incredible, record quarter with revenue of $143.8 billion, up 16 percent from a year ago and well above our expectations. (…) iPhone had its best quarter ever driven by unprecedented demand […]

Greater China grew 38% year-over-year. It was led by iPhone where we set an all-time revenue record, so it was the best iPhone quarter ever in Greater China.

Analysts have already described it three reasons for thisbut a new report highlights a key element at work.

Two of the reasons were Cosmic Orange

or Financial Times The report highlights the key role played by the Cosmic Orange color of the two iPhone 17 Pro models.

The Chinese market has long been known to be particularly status-conscious within the iPhone-buying demographic, so anything that makes it immediately clear that someone owns the latest model is an effective sales tool. The bright orange color certainly does, drawing attention to the fact that it’s a Pro model as well.

Analysts said a design refresh for the iPhone 17 range has strengthened Apple’s status position in China by making the latest handsets instantly stand out as new and high-end.

But the specific shade of orange has also been cited as an important factor, closely resembling a color associated with the French luxury brand Hermès.

“I was immediately drawn to the color – it felt very special, who doesn’t love Hermès orange?” said a model and influencer named Xiao Mei, in a video posing with her new accessory. “The more I look at it, the more I love it.”

The report says the said influencer is far from alone, with the similarity leading many to refer to the color as “Hermès orange” instead of Apple’s official name, Cosmic Orange.
