Vaibhav Sooryavanshi booked for new T20 league

Young Indian batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s schedule remains packed as he continues to attract attention. Just weeks before the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, the 14-year-old batter is expected to feature in the DY Patil T20 tournament in Navi Mumbai, a highly competitive corporate event.

The DY Patil T20 tournament features 16 teams every year. Notably, the tournament is one of India’s oldest T20 events, having started in 2003. It is played at the DY Patil Stadium, a venue that has hosted major matches, including a Women’s World Cup final, World Cup warm-up games, and a few IPL fixtures.

According to a report by Cricbuzz, talks between Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s team and the DY Patil tournament organizers are close to being finalized. The report added that the chances of the young batter playing in the tournament are very high.

Notably, the DY Patil T20 tournament will begin on February 23, just ahead of the IPL season. It usually attracts both domestic and international players because of its high-scoring conditions.

In recent editions, several well-known players have taken part in the event. Players like Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Shivam Dube, Nehal Wadhera, and Deepak Chahar have featured in the tournament.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Currently Training at Talegaon in Rajasthan Royals Camp

After impressing at the Under-19 World Cup, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is set to receive a motorcycle as a special gift. The presentation is expected to take place at a promotional event in his hometown in Bihar.

Vaibhav lives in Samastipur, about 85 km from Patna, where the function will be held. As he is still not old enough to ride a motorcycle, he may return home as a pillion rider with the new gift. He is training at the Rajasthan Royals facility in Talegaon near Nagpur.

“He is currently practising in Talegaon, where the Rajasthan Royals camp is underway. The camp will continue till February 21, after which Sooryavanshi will proceed to Patna and then to his hometown,” a source was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi had a stunning Under-19 World Cup campaign. In the final against England in Harare on February 6, he smashed 175 off 80 balls, including 15 fours and 15 sixes. He reached his hundred in just 55 balls. India lifted their sixth title, and Sooryavanshi was named Player of the Match.

He ended the tournament with 439 runs in seven innings at an average of 62.71 and a strike rate of 169.50. Former England player Mark Butcher compared his batting style to Sir Gary Sobers.

Sooryavanshi began his IPL journey with a six off Shardul Thakur and later became the fastest Indian to score a century, reaching the milestone in 35 balls. During IPL 2025, he scored 252 runs in seven matches at an average of 36 and a strike rate of 206.55.
