A veteran cricket umpire Manik Gupta lost his life after a bee attack during a cricket match at Sapru Stadium which is located in Unnao Uttar Pradesh. Manik worked as an eminent umpire throughout the Kanpur cricket circuit while he also served the Kanpur Cricket Association.
After finishing his match Manik went to meet a fellow umpire during a drinks break when a swarm of bees suddenly attacked everyone present Manik’s brother Amit Kumar Gupta told ANI. He added that Manik fell after losing his balance during his escape from the bees which proceeded to attack him. Notably Manik had been umpiring for about 30 years and was a state panel umpire.
“His match had ended and his fellow umpire was umpiring in a separate match. Manik went to him during the drinks break. The two were drinking tea when a swarm of bees attacked all attendees who were present in the room. He lost his balance and fell while trying to outrun the bees. The whole swarm of bees attacked him. The bees also attacked other people who were present. He performed umpire duties for approximately 30 years. He worked as an umpire on the state panel,” said Amit Kumar Gupta while speaking to ANI.
JagdisH Sharma, who worked as an umpire with Manik Gupta, reported to a different umpire about the incident because he observed bees attacking them during their break from work which involved drinking beverages. The bees followed us when we ran. Manik bhai could not run away from the bees because of his advanced years. The bees attacked all those present while they stayed on the ground. Manik suffered serious injuries because of the major attack.
Umpire Manik Gupta’s neighbour, Bhartendu Puri, said that Manik Gupta devoted his entire life to umpiring and supporting his family. The speaker described the person as a dedicated cricket player who worked as an umpire through his existence while describing the incident as tragic. The speaker introduced himself as a member of the Kanpur Cricket Association who worked as an esteemed umpire throughout his career in Kanpur according to Bhartendu Puri’s statement to ANI.
“The umpire has dedicated his entire life to his profession while he has financially supported his family. The player showed complete dedication to the sport of cricket. The event constitutes an unfortunate event. He was a member of the Kanpur Cricket Association, and he was a distinguished umpire in Kanpur,” Bhartendu Puri told ANI.
