Synopsis: Power stocks such as Adani Power, Tata Power, CESC Limited, and Torrent Power have historically surged in July, with gains of up to 19 percent in a month, driven by the strong developments unfolding in the months leading up to July.

Why is July special?
In India, Q1, that is the quarter from April till June, coincides with the intense summer season, which acts as the primary engine for electricity consumption. The massive requirement for cooling and power leads to peak load scenarios, driving up revenue for generators and distributors. For this year, the use is expected to top out at 283 gigawatts during the most extreme periods, a 13 percent jump compared to the current record of 250 gigawatts that was set in the summer of 2024.
Consequently, once these strong Q1 results are announced in July, stocks frequently surge as investors react to the impressive growth in both top and bottom lines compared to other, less energy-intensive quarters.
