The Wildlife Interpretation Centre (WIC) and Science Park, a project as part of Shivamogga Smart City, was inaugurated at Mahatma Gandhi Park in the city on Friday.
S.N. Channabasappa, Shivamogga MLA, inaugurated the park in the presence of officers of the Shivamogga City Corporation. The WIC and Science Park have been constructed to enable the general public to appreciate and explore forests, wildlife, biological diversity, and scientific concepts, says a brochure released on the occasion.
The visitors were greeted by a diorama of a tigress with cubs in the lobby. The first room has visual exhibits and panels showcasing the biological diversity and geographic orientation of the Western Ghats. The next room depicts the cultural heritage of Karnataka, particularly Shivamogga. The third room gives the visitors an experience of going through the forests. The fifth room has been designed to educate citizens on sustainability and the need to address global challenges, including climate change, decreasing resources, and pollution.
The MLA, Channabasappa, said that the centre had been designed to educate the public, particularly schoolchildren, on wildlife. “The park has many attractions for the visitors. I wish the residents of the city would visit the place,” he stated.
Tushar B. Hosur, Deputy Commissioner of Corporation, Priya P., Executive Engineer, and Lakshmi L., AEE (Civil) were present.
