Former India batter Yuvraj Singh spits his anger through the words amid the ongoing IPL 2026 season. Yuvraj is furious over the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) management, as they did not consider his student, Abhishek Sharma, as the captain of the team.
Ahead of the season, SRH named Ishan Kishan as their stand-in captain in the absence of their regular skipper Pat Cummins. The Australian pacer has been undergoing a rehabilitation process and is yet to play for SRH in 2026. As Cummins is unavailable to play, Ishan Kishan will be in charge of leading the team from the front.
Yuvraj Singh asks Sunrisers Hyderabad to appoint Abhishek Sharma as their captain
Yuvraj Singh strongly said that the management should consider Abhishek Sharma as their captain, as the batter is dedicated to the team, and he is well aware of the team’s mindset, as he has been with the same franchise for a long time. At the state level, he has experience in leadership as well.

“Abhishek Sharma has been playing for the SRH for the last 7 years and has been performing well for them. He is also captaining at the state level, but he still didn’t get the captaincy of SRH,” Yuvraj Singh said on speaking with SportsTak.

Why Abhishek Sharma should be the leader of SRH
The 25-year-old opener has been associated with the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise since the 2019 IPL after spending a season with the Delhi Capitals in 2018. Soon moving from Delhi to Hyderabad, Abhishek, who used to bat in the middle order, appeared as an opener for SRH, which was definitely a turning point in his career. Given an extended run as an opener from IPL 2022 onwards, he has amassed 1575 runs at a strike rate of 167.37.
According to the official website of the Indian Premier League, “In recent years, he has taken power-hitting to another level, striking at nearly 198.92 for SRH and over 190.46.”
In the past, he captained the state cricket team of Punjab in domestic matches as well. Ahead of the IPL 2026, there were speculations that SRH could name Abhishek Sharma as their new captain. In reality, Ishan Kishan, who led Jharkhand to their maiden Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament success, got the onus on his shoulders, and Sharma got the responsibility as the deputy of Kishan.
SRH will have to bounce back without Pat Cummins
For now, more than perturbing in the debates related to the team’s captaincy, Sunrisers Hyderabad must pay their focus on their on filed performance, especially after being defeated by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the opener of this season’s Indian Premier League.
In the first match of the league, the defending champion, RCB, outplayed SRH with ease. In that match, Ishan Kishan as an individual batter performed well, but as a team, they failed to impress.
Without the service of Pat Cummins, the bowling part of the team was not strong enough to remain toe to toe with the defending champions. As long as Cummins remains outside of playing eleven, the management will have to find some way to keep their bowling unit in shape.
