More than five crore fraudulent mobile connections have been disconnected, over 12 lakh lost and stolen mobile phones recovered, and cyber frauds worth more than ₹1,800 crore prevented through the Financial Fraud Risk Indicator (FRI) framework over the past two years, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) said on Monday.
The figures were shared at a security conference organised by the DoT’s Andhra Pradesh Licensed Service Area (AP LSA) unit in Hyderabad, attended by senior officials from the DoT, Hyderabad Police, Telangana Cyber Security Bureau, CID, the Reserve Bank of India, State Bank of India and telecom service providers.
Director General (Telecom), Anand Khare, said the achievements reflected the department’s efforts to curb telecom misuse and cyber-enabled financial fraud, while stressing the need for continued coordination among government agencies, banks and telecom operators.
The AP LSA also said it busted 11 illegal telecom and cybercrime setups during 2025-26 and recovered around 2.04 lakh lost and stolen mobile phones, the highest in the country.
On the sidelines of the conference, Mr. Khare inaugurated the Network Security Laboratory at the DoT AP LSA office in Hyderabad, which the department said is the first such facility within the DoT.
