Delhi Capitals batter Ashutosh Sharma set to play for Hampshire in One Day Cup

Delhi Capitals star and uncapped Indian batting all-rounder Ashutosh Sharma secured a fresh deal in the UK’s domestic cricket. The emerging all-rounder will feature in this year’s One Day Cup for the Hampshire cricket team.

On July 20, Hampshire confirmed the signing of Ashutosh Sharma ahead of their One Day Cup tournament opener for the 2026 season against Yorkshire at Scarborough on Tuesday.

Hampshire confirms Ashutosh Sharma for the 2026 One Day Cup

Ashutosh Sharma will join Hampshire after another blissful Indian Premier League season with the Delhi Capitals in 2026. Delhi Capitals, which is also co-owned by Hampshire owners GMR Group, spotted the raw talent and landed the deal easily on the table.

In the Punjab Kings in the IPL 2024 season, he played two straight seasons for the Capitals in 2025 and 2026. In the IPL 2025 and 2026 seasons, the 27-year-old has scored 204 and 171 runs, respectively, with strike rates of 160.62 and 181.91.

Hampshire director of cricket Giles White stated that they found Sharma to be an extremely potent talent who did significantly well for the Delhi Capitals. His IPL 2026 performance hinted at a possible quality career for the batter ahead in the future. The UK club is hoping to see Sharma in crucial roles for the team in the upcoming One Day Cup.

“We’re really pleased to sign Ashutosh for the One-Day Cup. He is a player of great potential and has done well for Delhi Capitals in the IPL recently, so knows what it’s like to perform to a high standard.”

“We look forward to welcoming him into the group and seeing what he can do in a Hampshire shirt as we look to go one step further than last year in the competition,” Giles White stated in the official release.

Ashutosh Sharma has past experience playing for UK clubs

The talent from Madhya Pradesh has previous experience playing for multiple clubs in the United Kingdom. Ashutosh Sharma, who has scored 458 List A runs in 21 matches, showcased his batting skills by registering a century for Wigan just hours after landing in the UK in 2025 for the Liverpool League.

Sharma first featured in the nation’s club cricket back in 2017, when he stepped onto the ground for Middlesex Titans. In the 2022 and 2023 seasons, the lower-middle order batter was part of the Gravesend team.

Hampshire will be one of the leading contenders to win this season’s One Day Cup trophy after they finished the previous campaign as the runner-up team.

Hampshire secures two other signings as well

BBC, in their report on July 20, mentioned that Hampshire has secured the signings of Harry Petrie and Oli Williams, two pacers, in their squad for the upcoming One-Day Cup season.

Petrie, a 23-year-old fast bowler, joined the team backed by an impressive bowling performance for the Second XI this summer. He emerged as the leading wicket-taker in the Second XI T20 competition.

Another fresh face in the team, Williams, who is only 19, is in his second year in the club’s academy, according to the media report.
