England batter Jacob Bethell described Virat Kohli as a person on and off the field during a recent YouTube channel video. Bethell, the batter from England who played for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the previous season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), got to know about how Virat Kohli was like as a person.
Across the cricket-playing nations, multiple stars are currently positioning themselves as the next possible big things of world cricket, but the aura around Virat Kohli remains as a few years ago. Virat is one of the most highly competitive characters on the ground.
Jacob Bethell breaks many misconceptions about Virat Kohli’s character
Based on his on-field nature, which could be pretty agressive in varying on the situation of the match, fans often judge him in the wrong way. Jacob Bethell also had some perspective about Virat before joining the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
As he became a member of the team, he got to know more about Virat’s persona. Bethell claimed that away from cricket, Virat Kohli looked like a very calm individual to him, and he spent a few moments with the Indian batting legend off the field as well.
Jacob Bethell found Virat Kohli to be a very chilled person off the field
Needless to say, Bethell received valuable words from the batting maestro. But the cool and calm nature that Virat carries outside the ground could be flipped whenever he enters a ground for a competitive match.
“Away from cricket and off the field, he’s actually a very chilled individual… great to talk to, um, great to spend time around. But you know, it’s just that ability to then flip into that competitive nature in and around cricket or training,” Jacob Bethell mentioned while speaking on ‘The Super Over’ YouTube channel.
Jacob Bethell further expressed that Virat’s lifestyle is mostly about keeping himself ready for performance for the team. He likes to keep himself ready for future endeavours through a well-maintained lifestyle.
“You know, his lifestyle is very—everything is—all the arrows are pointing in high performance… so he gives himself the best chance,” the England batter stated.
“Is an ultra-competitive person”: Jacob Bethell on Virat Kohli’s competitive nature
After that, the emerging English batter mentioned that he was not the captain of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the previous season in 2026 when RCB defended their title successfully, but he remained one of the most influential characters inside the team, who is a very competitive person who wanted to dominate the opposing team.
“But yeah, he’s an ultra-competitive person. He wasn’t captain, you know, when I was there, but he’s a massive, um, leader within the team,” Jacob Bethell added.
“Yeah, and as you said on the field, he’s very animated, but in team meetings, that kind of stuff, he shares unbelievable information, which is just—when you’re around people like that, you just want to kind of be a sieve and take in all that information,” he mentioned further in the same video.
