Suryakumar Yadav makes India comeback ambition clear

Suryakumar Yadav shared a meaningful Instagram post on Saturday, August 1, capturing some glimpses of his batting training in the nets. The former India captain seems like it is still hopeful of making a comeback with the national cricket team.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) unceremoniously snubbed Yadav entirely ahead of India’s tour of the UK, only a few weeks after winning the 2026 T20 World Cup under his leadership. The long-standing bad patch was considered the main reason behind his exclusion from the team.

Why did BCCI omit Suryakumar Yadav from the squad?

Whether for Team India or with the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026, the experienced batter had to struggle a lot to accumulate significant runs on the board. As the national cricket team selectors were prioritizing fresh talents, keeping an eye on the upcoming multi-nation T20I events, they not only excluded Suryakumar Yadav from the captaincy role, but also removed him from the T20 International team to appoint Shreyas Iyer as the new captain.

In the IPL 2026 season, scored only 270 runs in 13 matches and as many innings for an average of 20.76 with a couple of half-centuries. Yadav started the 2026 T20 World Cup campaign on a strong note, scoring a match-defining fifty-plus-run knock against the United States cricket team in India’s opening match of the tournament.

Suryakumar Yadav makes his ambition clear

After that, his form with the bat remained in a declining phase, though as a captain he was as effective as before.

“It’s the dream I grew up chasing, and I’m still chasing it the same way”, Suryakumar Yadav makes his aim clear through the caption of the Instagram video he shares today.

By the time the article was crafted, the short video post had gained 97.6K likes, 1,228 comments, and 755 shares, as cricket fans still trust him.

Suryakumar Yadav performed decently in the recent edition of the T20 Mumbai League

The 35-year-old batter last featured in the T20 Mumbai League 2026, where he performed decently with the bat as the captain of Triumph Knights Mumbai North East. In this season, against the MSC Maratha Royals, the middle-order batter played a match-winning 72 off 36 balls to guide his team to a 6-wicket win.

Against the SoBo Mumbai Falcons, he played another blistering innings, a 24-ball 48-run knock, maintaining a strike rate of 200.00.

As of now, it is unclear when he will feature next in a competitive match.

SKY was appointed as the India captain for the T20Is in July 2024, replacing Rohit Sharma, after India’s triumphant T20 World Cup campaign. As the captain of the team, Suryakumar Yadav scored 932 runs at an average of 25.88 in 45 matches.

Despite the dip in his batting form, Yadav remains the only batter across the globe who holds the record for T20I centuries in four different countries— India, England, New Zealand, and South Africa.
