The Telangana Cooperative Marketing Federation (TG-Markfed) has secured an average price of ₹25,370 per tonne in the e-auction of maize conducted in three phases, and it had yielded a profit of ₹1,500 per tonne compared to the procurement price.
The agency went for e-auction, instead of the practice of e-tenders in the past, for sale of 10.98 lakh tonnes of maize procured during the recent Rabi season. Minister for Agriculture Tummala Nageswara Rao has stated that Markfed had procured a record 14.6 lakh tonnes of maize during Rabi.
As there was shortage of storage space for storing the procured grain, it was stocked in the open sheds, cotton ginning mills and rice mills temporarily. Since 3.8 lakh tonnes of the stock was facing threat of getting soaked in untimely rains, it was sole in e-auction with the condition of lifting the stock within 30 days, and it was sold at ₹22,000 per tonne.
The remaining 10.98 lakh tonnes was sold in e-auction in three phases and it had commanded a maximum price of ₹26,500 per tonne and minimum price of ₹24,100 per tonne with the average being ₹25,370 per tonne on July 31, August 1 and August 3, respectively.
According to officials, 3,70,895 tonnes sold in the first phase had commanded a price between ₹24,900 per tonne to ₹25,600 per tonne, in the second phase 3,68,154 tonnes was auctioned with in price range of ₹24,100 per tonne to ₹26,500 per tonne, and in the last phase 3,59,339 tonnes was disposed in the price range of ₹25,200 per tonne to ₹26,000 per tonne.
FCI storage
Meanwhile, in a meeting with Food Corporation of India (FCI) officials, Minister for Civil Supplies N. Uttam Kumar Reddy requested the central agency to increase its storage capacity in the State since it had only the space for storing 31 lakh tonnes of custom milled rice against the procurement limit of 47.25 lakh tonnes in the State.
