England wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler has achieved another remarkable milestone in his glittering T20 career. During The Hundred clash against Welsh Fire, Buttler smashed an unbeaten 51 off just 20 balls to become the highest run-scorer in men’s T20 cricket.
The innings helped him move past West Indies legend Kieron Pollard, who previously held the record with 14,803 runs. Buttler now has 14,833 T20 runs at an average of over 35, adding another historic achievement to his career.
After reaching the landmark, Buttler was asked how special the achievement felt. While expressing his delight, the England star also made a surprising prediction.
“I know this record won’t stay with me for too long. His name is probably Vaibhav Sooryavanshi,” Buttler said while praising the 15-year-old Indian sensation.
Jos Buttler, now the highest run-scorer in T20 history, believes Vaibhav Sooryavanshi could one day break his record. ❤️🔥

The statement reflects the admiration Buttler has for one of India’s brightest young talents. Having shared the Rajasthan Royals dressing room with Sooryavanshi, Buttler has seen the youngster’s fearless approach from close quarters.
Sooryavanshi enjoyed a dream IPL 2026 season, finishing as the tournament’s leading run-scorer. The teenage opener amassed 776 runs in 16 matches at an average of 48.50 and an outstanding strike rate of 237.31 to win the Orange Cap. He was also named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP).
His impressive form has continued in international cricket as well. During India’s recent T20I series against Zimbabwe, Sooryavanshi scored two half-centuries(81 and 50), further proving that he can perform consistently at the highest level.
Considering his fearless batting style, remarkable consistency and the fact that he is only 15 years old, many believe he has the potential to rewrite several T20 records in the years ahead.
However, the biggest challenge for any young cricketer is maintaining consistency over a long period. Talent alone is never enough. Fitness, adaptability and sustained performances will ultimately determine how far Sooryavanshi goes in his career.
If he continues on his current path, Buttler’s prediction may well come true, with the Indian youngster emerging as a genuine contender to rewrite the T20 record books.
