Pakistan finally ended their three-year wait for an away Test victory after defeating West Indies by eight wickets in the second Test. It was a commanding performance from the visitors, who bounced back strongly after losing the opening match to level the series 1-1.
For Pakistan, this was their first away Test win since 2023. The team had gone through a difficult period overseas, suffering one defeat after another without registering a single victory. That long wait finally came to an end with an impressive all-round performance.

Babar Azam was handed the captaincy before the series, and he made an immediate impact by guiding Pakistan to their first away Test win in three years.
The series did not begin well for Pakistan. West Indies dominated the opening Test and exposed Pakistan’s familiar weaknesses. Despite being in a strong position, Pakistan suffered another batting collapse, allowing the hosts to take complete control and secure a comfortable victory.
Pakistan also faced a major setback before the second Test. Shan Masood, who had scored a century in the first match, was ruled out due to injury. The team management also made some bold selection decisions.
The biggest surprise was leaving out Mohammad Abbas, despite the fact the right-armer picked up eight wickets in the first Test in Tarouba. However, considering the pitch conditions, Babar Azam backed spinner Sajid Khan, and that decision proved to be the right one.
On a turning surface, Sajid Khan was outstanding. He picked up four wickets for 85 runs in the first innings and followed it up with another four wickets for 32 runs in the second innings.
He received excellent support from fellow spinner Ali Usman, who claimed two wickets for 80 runs in the first innings and four wickets for 49 runs in the second. The West Indies batters had no answer to Pakistan’s spin attack throughout the match.
West Indies posted 344 runs in their first innings. Pakistan responded with 387, taking a valuable first-innings lead.
Abdullah Shafique, who came in as Shan Masood’s replacement at No. 3, played one of the finest knocks of the match. He scored 160 runs to put Pakistan in complete control before remaining unbeaten on 24 in the second innings.
Captain Babar Azam also made an important contribution with 88 runs in the first innings. He remained unbeaten on 24 in the chase and finished the match in style with a six.

Pakistan’s victory was built on smart team selection, disciplined bowling and responsible batting. Sajid Khan’s match-winning spell, Abdullah Shafique’s century and Babar Azam’s leadership helped Pakistan register their first away Test win in three years.
If this performance is anything to go by, Pakistan will hope this victory marks the beginning of a turnaround in their performances away from home.
