Protest against actor in Dharwad condemned

Theatre personalities, writers and activists have condemned the attempt made by some Hindutva activists to gherao actor-activist Prakash Raj in Dharwad on Sunday.

Samudaya theatre group is a community cultural organization that has been organising several movements across the country for the past 50 years. An event to commemorate this was organised in Dharwad on Sunday, press release from the organisation said.

Retired judge Nagmohan Das and Prakash Raj were invited to speak at the valedictory, it added.

However, some Hindutva activists disrupted this event. They staged a protest in front of the event hall against Prakash Raj. They raised slogans like “Prakash Raj Go Back”, the release said.

As the program began, the group entered the hall with an intention of creating a ruckus. After the event, the group tore banners in front of the hall and tried to smear black paint on the portrait of Prakash Raj. This shows their fascist tendencies, it said.

What is more, MLA Arvind Bellad entered the city police station on behalf of the protestors and urged the police officers to register a case against Samudaya instead, the release said.

He also said that inquilab zindabad is an anti-national slogan. It is highly condemnable. Samudaya condemns such anti-democratic attacks and demands that those who attacked the government and those who instigated this attack be identified and appropriate action taken against them, the release said.

Reception committee president Agrahara Krishnamurthy, Samudaya general secretary Manoj Vamanjoor and others, including L.N. Mukundaraj, H. Janardhan, K. Marula Siddappa, L. Hanumanthaiah, S.G. Siddaramaiah, Vasundhara Bhupathi, N. Gayatri, K. Neela, Mavalli Shankar, Banjagere Jayaprakash and K.V. Nagaraja Murthy, have signed the release.
