CPI(M) leader Jayarajan accuses Congress, BJP of waging political vendetta against Pinarayi

Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] State secretariat member M.V. Jayarajan has accused the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to use central investigating agencies, including the Enforcement Directorate (ED), for political vendetta against Opposition leader Pinarayi Vijayan and his family.

Speaking at a public meeting organised at Payyambalam as part of the death anniversary observance of veteran CPI(M) leader Chadayan Govindan, Mr. Jayarajan said Mr. Vijayan, whom he described as a leader who had not earned even a single rupee through corruption in his political life, was being deliberately portrayed as corrupt.

He said the CPI(M) would politically and legally resist any attempt by the United Democratic Front (UDF) and the BJP to target Mr. Vijayan and his family through what he termed “false cases”. Any such move, he warned, will be met with public protest and legal action, with the entire party organisation ready to stand together against it.

Mr. Jayarajan also questioned the ED’s alleged inaction over allegations concerning Congress leaders Ramesh Chennithala and P.K. Kunhalikutty. He alleged that both leaders had accepted illegal money from Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL) and asked why the ED had not conducted an investigation or raids in connection with those allegations.

Referring to a petition filed by Congress leader Mathew Kuzhalnadan, Mr. Jayarajan said the court had earlier rejected it for lack of evidence. He claimed that the absence of evidence was also the reason why the ED had not proceeded with a case against Mr. Vijayan.

Mr. Jayarajan further alleged that the Congress and the BJP have a political understanding in Keralam and were attempting to exploit the State’s political situation and central agencies to target Mr. Vijayan for political gains. He accused the agencies of once again being used as instruments of political persecution.

The programme followed a floral tribute at the memorial of Chadayan Govindan at Payyambalam. CPI(M) district secretary K.K. Ragesh and State committee members P. Sasi and N. Chandran also addressed the memorial meeting.

Secretariat members M. Surendran and K.V. Sumesh, MLA, and K.C. Harikrishnan, along with area secretaries N. Anil Kumar and M.K. Murali, among others, led the programme. Members of Chadayan Govindan’s family also attended the function.
