Activists of the Kula Vivaksha Vyatireka Porata Sangham (KVPS) staged a protest in Khammam on Friday, demanding the disbursement of pending compensation to victims of caste-based atrocities in cases registered under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
The protesters staged a dharna at the entrance of the Integrated District Offices Complex (IDOC), raising several demands concerning the welfare and protection of Dalits.
Addressing the demonstration, KVPS district general secretary N. Manohar demanded that the government also release pending incentives to inter-caste marriage couples and ensure their timely disbursement under the scheme.
He said effective implementation of such measures would help promote social integration and combat caste discrimination.
Later, a delegation of KVPS submitted a memorandum of their demands to Collector Divakara T.S. at the integrated district collectorate offices complex (IDOC) in Khammam.
