A group of farmers staged a rasta roko at Sundaragiri crossroads in Chigurumamidi mandal of Karimnagar district on Friday, protesting against alleged unscheduled power cuts, which they said was affecting their standing maize and other crops.
The aggrieved farmers from Sundaragiri and neighbouring villages squatted on the main road, demanding assurance on uninterrupted power supply to help protect their standing crops.
According to sources, the road blockade disrupted traffic movement for some time. The farmers called off the protest after mandal-level officials assured them that their grievances would be brought to the notice of the higher authorities.
Similar protests were held at Paidimadugu village in Korutla mandal of Jagtial district and Kusumanchi in Khammam district on Friday.
