Burglars decamped with 20 sovereigns of gold jewellery, one kilogram of silver objects, and around ₹60,000 cash from the house of a farmer in Thachambadi village near Chetpet town in Tiruvannamalai on Wednesday.
V. Kannappan, 68, a farmer, his wife Chinna Kulathai, 62, were returning from their farm when they noticed damage to the main door of the house. The couple checked the cupboard and found vaulables missing. On being informed, Chetpet police reached the house with forensic experts. Fingerprints were taken. The police also took CCTV camera footage. Superintendent of Police (SP) M. Sudhakar formed special teams to nab the culprits. A case was registered and a probe is under way.
