Rohit Sharma produced a memorable performance during India’s second ODI against West Indies at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. The veteran opener smashed his 35th ODI century with 10 fours and six sixes. while playing a crucial role in India’s mammoth chase of 406, giving his critics another reminder of his ability to deliver on the big stage.
The 39-year-old also reached 12,000 ODI runs during his innings, becoming only the third Indian batter to achieve the landmark. His century was his second in his last three ODI innings and came at a crucial stage as India looked to chase down the huge target set by West Indies.
Rohit Sharma’s childlike celebration after reaching century
Rohit reached his hundred from 72 deliveries after taking a single to complete the milestone. Instead of a restrained celebration, he jumped in the middle of the pitch before punching his hand into the air, producing a childlike reaction that reflected just how much the moment meant to him. He eventually departed for 101 off 75 balls, but not before putting India in a commanding position alongside Shubman Gill.
The innings also carried added significance because Rohit had been under scrutiny over his place in the ODI setup. His latest hundred followed another strong recent run of form and gave him another opportunity to underline his value at the top of the order.

Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill power India to record chase
West Indies posted a massive 405/7 after being asked to bat first, with John Campbell, Shai Hope and Amir Jangoo all scoring centuries. Campbell made 101, Hope scored 104 and Jangoo smashed 114 as the visitors put India under pressure. India responded in emphatic fashion, with Rohit and Gill putting together a 255-run opening partnership.
Rohit’s 101 provided the perfect platform for Gill, who produced an extraordinary unbeaten 223 to take the chase away from West Indies. India eventually reached 406/2 in just 43.3 overs to complete a remarkable eight-wicket victory. Gill’s double century was the highlight of the chase, but Rohit’s century and the joyous celebration that followed added another memorable moment to India’s dominant performance.
